View Full Version : "My Family" - is it actually funny?

I was watching that "Best Sitcoms" show at the weekend and I was shocked to see My Family rank so highly above other, far better, sitcoms. Personally I can't stand this show - the humour is pretty basic and the timing and "flow" of the show seems awful.

Does anyone here like My Family? Or, like me, despise it? :P

Well I quite enjoy it.

I think its carried on from the general idea of 2 point 4 children.

Isn't it ironic that Robert Lindsey portrays a dentist? Watching the program is like having your teeth pulled.

The running order of the shows made me think that they where in no particular order and all the shows would be voted on. Maybe i wasnt listening properly. Some of the lower order ones pi**ed on the others. Tony Hancock and Rigsby are my all time heros.

:o I absolutely love My Family!! It's probably the best mainstream sitcom on the TV at the moment. Shame on you Geoff.

The show was in order until they got to the Top 10. Those 10 were shown in no particular order because they are allowing viewers to vote for their favourite.

As for not liking My Family - it's just really basic, one...two...three joke, one two three... talking, one two three joke - it's so predictable when a joke is coming.

I only watch it for Nick....Mmmmmmm lovely Nick....he's the best ruddy thing about the whole programme!

Best thing Robert Lindsay did was Citizen Smith and Zoe Wanamaker I just want to smack...and maybe give her a hairbrush! looks likes she's been elelctrocuted...which may not be a bad idea!

Yes, it's a brilliant comedy - lol!

Ben and Nick hilarious. My Hero - waste of licence fee in my opinion.

I used to love My Family but its not as good as it used to be.
Roger and the dizzy blonde neice/cousin (?) spoil it.

Zoe Wanamaker is great - I love her hair!

Abbi?

She's a waste of space.

I've only seen little bits, I find it incredibly stilted and quite painful to watch.

Roger's OK, but Abbi's just unrealistically dumb. It's not as good now Nick isn't in it.

She was good in the first 2 Harry Potters as the Broomstick teacher..

The character she plays in My Family is incredibly annoying, I'm not quite sure how much that is down to her and how much down to what she is aiming for. Not seen her in much else, and the acting from most people in first Harry Potter film was as wooden as the broomsticks so diffcult to judge from that.

I cannot stand the show, at all, it is just unfunny, hackneyed tripe, imo. the writers should be shot for crimes against comedy writing.

It is almost as unfunny as Ronnie Corbett......
no, on second thoughts, scratch that...

It is as unfunny as Ronnie Corbett in "Sorry!"

Arrggghhh! (it was not the same writers who wrote "Sorry" as wrote "my family", was it? - just out of curiosity sorry just about sums up the state of the show... "Sorry!")

The funniest thing about Corbett, IMHO, was Ronnie Barker. the funniest man, ad most talented comedy writer ever to draw breath.(he wrote a lot of the 2 ronnies' stuff and other stuff under a pseudonym)

Why can't we have some decent comedies, classics, like "Porridge", for example.

I think its success is a bias one based on taking a prime time slot where there is nothing else really competing it. Had it been on say, BBC 2 at 11.00pm on a Thursday evening then its popularity would probably be a different mater altogether.

I'm on the same side of those that think this is trash.
