View Full Version : Best place for fitted kitchens?
commuter 14-09-2005, 12:00 Needs to have a showroom so I can do the man thing and wander round them opening and closing doors, kicking tyres etc - sorry wrong showroom! Looking for quality at a reasonable price (metal drawer runners etc rather than those cr*p plastic ones that end up binding after a couple of weeks)
Also looking for appliances, seen a double drawer dishwasher in MFI but no where else. Anyone out there got one? What do you think gimmick or practical/economic? Anyone been to Appliance World (not an orthapedic truss in sight!)
And lastly any good fitters out there? No cowboys or odd jobbers who disappear for half way through the job to "just look at a mates sink, be back in an hour"
You could save me a lot of driving round on Saturday so this is your chance to help me cut down on harmful emmissions - from the car at least :D
littleboo 14-09-2005, 12:07 we got ours from homebase when they had the 25% off offer on....which may I add seems to be on quite often and then got the 10% voucher from the argos book off as well!! got a really good deal, all drawer runners are metal ect...did have a few hitches but these were not major but were sorted the same day and they sent us £75 in vouchers for the trouble....pluse we got £140.00 on our spend and save card.....brucy bonus
we got our appliences on line at currys...searched for money off vouchers and I got £260 and free delivery off the shop price...took final price in to store and they couldn't match it. got big american fridge freezer with ice thingy, double oven and hob and a dishwaher for £960.00
some one else recommended Doorstop to us for units, Near the Asda. supposed to be good quality and prices. the guy who reccomended it is a joiner and uses them all the time.
steer away from B&Q though kitchens arn't great and they quoted us more to fit it than we would have paid for the units!!
my advice find your own fitter
littleboo 14-09-2005, 12:16 one more thing ..stay away from the high gloss work sufaces, they may look nice but thay are a real pain to clean and get scratched really easily.

youwhatref 15-09-2005, 05:55 I've used MFI twice and have had no problems. Remember that the fitting does cost a fortne. Both times i have used contractors who fit kitchens for MFI but used them privately.
We have high gloss work surfaces and they lok fab but littleboo is right as they scratch real easy (we were warned by the fitters)
based at old whittington, unit 6&7 station lane industrial estate
5 mins from meadowhead down a61
they did my kitchen & bedrooms 12 months ago
We used Charisma kitchens of Dinnington initially but that ended up with us taking them to court due to the crap quality and shoddy fitting.
We then used Ideal Kitchens - in Greasborough Rotherham. Very good quality cabinets, all made in house and reasonably priced.
We have used Hygena kitchens before which we bought from Curry's in Meadowhall Retail Park! (its at the rear inside Curry's).
There was one door which had slight damage on it and they delivered a new one the very same day which was great.
We got ours from MFI. The cabinet doors and the worktops are both high gloss, but I find them easy to keep looking good. The cabinet doors are much easier to clean than traditional style or wooden doors with panels and grooves in.
fnkysknky 15-09-2005, 21:57 I'd stay away from Homebase - worst units I've had the unfortunate pleasure of fitting. B&Q units aren't too bad if you can live without colour matched carcasses.
I'll refrain from advertising my own company in this post, lol ;)
kitchen house in nottingham just off teh motorway junction 32
MFI are rip offes they give u a very low price but when you ask the total cost the add pieces like plinths and side boards which makes the cost go up twice as much.
MFI also have the rudest and arrogant salesmen and women i have come across!
bornandbred 16-09-2005, 17:09 I've heard good reports about the the one near MFI, could be Direct Kitchens, next to Candy Town.
fnkysknky 16-09-2005, 18:30 Kitchen Creations is the one next to Candy Town - do some nice stuff. Might be fitting for them myself soon to be honest.
Just got myself a new supplier today - now supplying high quality kitchens at an even better price than I was before and they were cheap then :)
I can't recommend Mac's Homecare at Gleadless Townend highly enough. Their service and products from start to finish are second to none. They completely gutted my kitchen, dining room and pantry last year to make on big dining/kitchen. All the skills people on the job, builders, plasterers, electricians, plumbers, joiners and Damon the 'Kitchen Fitting God' were superb. Thay all turned up on time, did an outstanding job and came in under budget! Mick West who project managed the whole thing was worth his weight in gold. As a result, 2 of my friends employed them to do their kitchens this year and they're just as chuffed as I am. The quailty of the kitchen units and work tops is excellent, but not the cheapest you'll find. The appliances (all CDA) were sourced on line but priced matched by Mac's. You get what you pay for and I'm confident my kitchen will last a good 20 years and still look as good as new. If you just want the services of Damon, PM me for his number.
sexibabe 20-09-2005, 18:48 My hubby works for J.A.Horne in Sheffield. They have a showroom on Abbeydale Road and another near Wicker Arches. It's a small but really competitive company and everyone is really friendly......
fnkysknky 20-09-2005, 21:32 We've now got an electronic pricelist together in pdf format for anyone interested. PM or email on address in signature,
Jody
