View Full Version : Garage broken into - bike taken
ConfusedFish 12-01-2004, 09:57 On Saturday night (10th Jan) our garage was broken into and my decent bike was taken. The lock was just broken off. The thieves would have had to have carried the bike away because the front wheel was locked, so it was unrideable.
I have reported the incident to the police but as yet haven't even been contacted by them, I guess I will never see it again.
I was insured so all is not lost, but it isn't a nice feeling to have what you consider to be your own space broken into and things that are yours just taken away. I really don't understand the mentality behind it all.
Ahh well. Never mind.
Did anyone else have a similar thing happen that night in the Hillsborough area? Or did anyone see someone carrying a locked bike?

Sometime between Thursday and Sunday, someone broke into our garage, but thats in Ecclesfield.
ConfusedFish 12-01-2004, 11:21 Sorry to hear that JOC1. Seems a bit far away to be related though.

Only just over the hill.... nothing was taken though... nothing in there to take. But I am inclined to agree with you, though it was just a bit too 'clean' to be kids.....

And I thought Ecco was safe, I don't even take the front off of my stereo at night! I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Just out of interest to see how far the theiving scum will go...
Was the garage attached to the house or seperate. Was it alarmed. Did they get through an up and over door etc etc.
Every little bit of info helps us to protect our own places.

I swear im gonna set a trap for thieves oneday, ie, cleaning my motocross bike right outside my house etc, and tuneing it, etc, this summer outside the house... Then in the garage, im... well, anyone got any idea's?
I'd like to have about 3 of us hiding in the garage, but that aint gonna be possible for like 5nights running. I could put an electric charge through my garage door, but they'll probably get me done by the cops?
My cousin lives in High Green and the theft over there is incredible. Her son had his BMX bike stolen out of a locked garage. The theives wheeled the bike up and over the top of the car. Left tire tracks and footprints right across the top of the car. They got the culprits who had re-sprayed it a different colour. Local kids who had seen him with it. They also put sugar in her gas tank and cut the petrol line too
Plus she has had a set of solar garden lanterns stolen, garden planters complete with plants, and believe it or not they unscrewed the house number plate from the wall!!! She has a gated garden with trees and a fence around so it's not like it's exposed and inviting people in. I visited my family in England for the first time in 3 years and I was appalled by the crime in Sheffield. I live in a city and I feel safe here to a point I have my whole porch full of plants, wind chimes, bikes, chairs etc etc. I never worry about it all going missing in the middle of the night. If I lived in Sheffield I'd get a huge dog or a gun! Shoot the f***ers.
fredsredhat 12-01-2004, 18:50 lista, get a dog. it's the best house alarm around. i have a story about the dog and the local yobs so my bike or my gf's scooter has never been touched. :)
not exactly related, but, on the thieving scumbag thing, i had the flowers i got for my grandad's funeral stolen from the garden of rememberence at the cemetary. even the card i wrote.....
ConfusedFish 13-01-2004, 08:46 Not just me then, I will stop feeling sorry for myself!

The garrage is seperate from the house. The doors open outwards (not upwards). I guess the lock could have been more secure as they just ripped it off (looks like they used a crowbar by the dent in the wood).

smellie1 13-01-2004, 11:31 Last year I has two planters stolen from outside my house. I only have a patch of concrete about 2mx1m in front of the house and somebody nicked them while I was out shopping. I'd only planted them up that morning. My friend who lives up the hill at stannington said that their neighbours had had the same problem the same day and we reckon somebody made a killing at the car boot sale the following day. I also had my bike nicked from the back garden. oh and my car was stolen from outside the house. The police actually watched it being stolen as well, just to make sure it was being taken illegally, and then had the nerve to say after they woke me at 2.,30am to tell me that it had been written off while they were chasing it, that I didn't look upset!
I live in hillsborough and have done for 10 years since moving from the warwickshire countryside, where I never had anything stolen.
Will keep my eye out for the youths with a locked bicycle when on my way home from work for you!
I think the police in hillsborough have a lot to deal with, especially at the weekends, what with football and so many people who go out and get plastered at night. They won't catch anyone doing anything naughty on Thurs,Fri Sat, Sun co s they're too busy dealing with the drunken idiots
