Hi, everyone, good evening. My CD rewriter does not recognise there is a disc in the drive despite the fact there is one inside.

I use Ahead Nero version 5.5 software to burn CDs.

Any comment and help are much appreciated.

Have you tried a CDRW disc?

I had a similar problem a while back.

Every disc I tried, same response - No disc in drive messages, with the exception of CDRW discs which showed up with no problem.

Ended up buying a new one:(.

I bought some CDR 's from Tesco...none of these discs are recognised by my CD rewriter but Imation CDR's are...

just some CDR's are poor quality maybe!

just keep trying another blank - you'll probably get one to read!

When does it display this message? Does it do it all the time no matter what disc you put in, or does it only do it when you put blank discs in, or do it when you put blank discs of a certain brand\batch in?

Hi, everyone, thank you for your good response. I bought a wheel of 50 discs at PC World months ago. I was able to use some of these discs for backup but the rest is not recognised by the drive. I used Imation CDR discs before and there was no problem. I shall buy some Imation discs to try this weekend.

Thank you.

I previously had a very similar problem where my drive was not reading from CD's, but it would from DVD's and I had the compaq tech guy come out and replace it with a new one and all was fine. I believe it is often simply from other use or when the reading sensor has been knocked out of place.

Is it still under warrenty if its not a problem with the disks?

Hi, everyone, good evening. I have tried the Imation CDRs but it does not work either. My drive does not recognise any discs CDR AND CDRW. It worked on both well before. Virus??

Strange things happen! believe it or not, both my desk top and laptop computers do not switch off after I click shut down. Please note I have set the command that when I click "shut down" and when I press the power on/off it will switch off. Virus???

I think the last resort is to format my hard drives and start from the beginning. But to do this I need to back up all my data first.

Any suggestion?

Thank you

Sorry to hear you are still having problems.

Quickest way is to buy another portable hard drive.

This thread (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15879&highlight=hard+drive+storage) may help!

However, if it is a virus you may re-infect the computer when you re-install your files!

What sort of anti-virus software are you running??

PS I am not an expert...so someone maybe able to recommend another way!

So I wouldn't do anything just yet as regards restoring the PC back to factory settings etc

:)

Shiesh,

Thank you for your advice. I bear this in mind regarding formatting my hard drive. This is the last resort.

Don't buy from PC World, they're waaaay overpriced, their sales people know sweet f all about what they're selling, and their tech support department are fuffing useless.

I only buy from PC World cos I trust the small backstreet computer shops as far as I could throw one of their members of staff... I bought my first PC from some dodgy shop up Walkley a few years back, had no end of problems with it, the shop was no help, and eventually went down the swannee...
