someone was buying a car for there daughter and the money for the car was suppoost to come straight out of their bank account.
They had a bust up with the police in januray and lost their license
for a year. They took passport for id but were told that it becouse they only had a passport they could be a terrorist but had they of had there driving license on them then they would not be a terrorist . How crazy is that if a terrorist has a driving license then he is not a terrorist

It has something to do with the new money laundering regulations nothing to do with driving or licence.
Stops gangsters from abroad buying property, cars etc funded by illgotten gains, then selling again to gain "clean cash".
They need to make sure you are a british citizen and reside in this country for the purpose of any loan/ credit agreement.
Not all Money Launderers are terrorists, and not all regulations relating to Identification in banks is to prevent Money Laundering. Sometimes it's to prevent other types of fraud.
Anyway, they need proof of ID and proof of address. A driving licence acts as both, a passport only proves ID.
You could still be a terrorist, or fraudster, but at least they know who you are.

If I read it properly, the person was going to their own bank to transfer/withdraw money from their own account.
Under these circumstances, proof of ID is all that is needed and a Passport would suffice. (As it does for me on regular occasions)
Maybe something else was going on or a misunderstanding occured.
However, if you want to move more than £1000 now, you have to fill out a security form for anti-laundering purposes. It winds me up quite often which means that £999 comes out more often than not!

The first post wasn't exactly clear as to what was happening - if they were drawing funds from their own account then yes a passport should be fine.
As for the forms, don't blame the bank - they hate them as much as you do. Blame our friends at the Treasury and the Home Office.
