So simple really

hiyabeing 11-01-2004, 19:23 Fletch,
Can you add 'Marmite is EVIL' as a choice in the poll so that I can vote.... please.
DaBouncer 11-01-2004, 19:26 Why you not at the meet tonight Hiyabeing??? I can't believe YOU would miss a forum gathering.
And I'll second that motion to have a 'Marmite is EVIL' option!
However, fletch NOT being a mod I feel he'll not be able to change the poll now!
I've never tried it, but I like Twiglets.
why eye man DB i canny change poll like man (sorry watching Auf wiedersane pet)
no i cant change the poll will ask nomme to see wht he can do!!
thts one for the feedback thread can we have permission to change our polls and add a new option, like we can edit our posts!!
My option isn't in there so I'll put it here.
I can take it or leave it.........tick!
E-Man Groovin 11-01-2004, 22:35 The option 'Fletch has too much time on his hands' isn't available so I aint voting either.
I've been told that marmite is good for cooking - suitable for wide variety of dishes. Never had it yet tho - maybe one of those 'things to do b4 u die...'
starchild 12-01-2004, 18:57 Marmite is fab but does not compare to the almighty Vegemite...
Mosherchik 12-01-2004, 19:02 Looks like poo...
smells like poo...
tastes like poo...
Hey this is poo...!
I think Marmite is nasty horrible VILE creation and should be stopped...is nasty salty tar in jars...
Nasty
cool site 4 u mosh : http://www.ihatemarmite.co.uk/
Marmite recently had its centenary and the guardian site http://www.guardian.co.uk/netnotes/article/0,6729,748622,00.html list oodles of useless facts including feeding marmite to dogs - i wonder what they think of it ?

I have to agree, I thought its`s primary use was for laying roads.
And it`s secondary use for dipping the tops of pencils in to prevent children nibbling the tops?
BrainThrust 12-01-2004, 20:00 Marmite is a godsend, nothing else tastes as good on toast, especially with cheese spread.
I can see why people hate it though, it does has something corrupt about it.
Wilf
Have to agree with Mosh i'm afraid.
Brown and smells loads, can't eat it cos i can't take the lid off the jar.
hiyabeing 12-01-2004, 21:06 I've voted now! Thanks Fletch. :)
Glad to see mosher and venger agree with me.
Classic Rock 13-01-2004, 11:09 Smells awful, tastes awful.....yerurrrchh!
Martin_s 13-01-2004, 11:24 Hmm.. I don't think I ever imagined that Marmite would have the same sort of social limiting power of say smoking but it seems to be the case...
Lot of ladies who wouldn't like my breakfasts :D
I love it and adore it
I was raised on it
All my pals keep a wee jar in the cupboard in case I am staying over for breakfast
I even sneaked some over to the US with me on holiday
YUM YUM YUM
PS Spotted some marmite walkers crisps in Fox's today

Birth-Peace 07-10-2005, 20:20 As far as I am concerned it is the yukkiest thing invented but Richard, my hubbie, loves it.

That's the fun of it! :D
40summat 07-10-2005, 21:03 I used to love Marmite,
I hadn't had any for years, then thought i'd get a jar and found i could not stand it.
I was convinced they'd changed the taste, but i think maybe my palate has changed over the years.
Just thinking of it now makes me want to try it again but i know i'll not like it, i think i'll have a go at the 'mashed potato' idea of Cherry's to see if i can get back in to it.
good idea  any more recipies out there ?
no seriously - how do you do it
My marmite would just stick to the knife and refuse to budge, then when I tried to mix up the mash, it would all just stick together.

Eeee Lotti, what are you like?! You just make the mash and then spoon in some marmite and mix it up :D maybe your mash is too cold or thick
Mmmmm yummy! Though I do prefer vegemite to marmite, it's all very similar though isn't it?
There isn't an 'on occasion in small doses' option.
I'm one of the weird ones who buys a mini jar and it lasts 2 years, I do eat it, in small scrapings on toast on rare occasion.
Stirred into hot water and drunk from a flask whilst sitting on a drystone wall in Derbyshire on a misty Autumn morning. Mmmmm, bliss!!!
Eaten? YUCK!!!!!!:gag:
Dear lord it's AWFUL!! :gag:

I was told and it was confirmed by a chemist, if you eat marmite it stops the mossies from biting you, more affective than any insect repellant.
stars_gazing 16-12-2005, 04:24 I HATE Marmite
(isn't that how the song goes)
and it's 05:20... So I thought I'd ask if you love it or hate it (what else is there to do?)...
bensonhedges 16-12-2005, 06:22 I love marmite, but my boyfriend won't kiss me when I've had some, and I prefer kisses.
Well I ticked Love it, but I don't think the 'you either love it or hate it' thing is true, I like it but I could take it or leave it to be honest!
Englishlady 16-12-2005, 06:54 I LOVE Marmite, have it every day. But there's an art to spreading it on toast. Non marmite eaters spread it on too think, it has to be spread very thinly and randomly across the toast:D .
My husband doesn't like Marmite and once made me some, he spread it like you would jam.:gag:
Englishlady 16-12-2005, 06:55 Think should be thick:D
I dont agree with the love it or hate it saying...
I personally dont mind it... i can take it or leave it...
Sometimes when having toast and really feel in the mood for a little flavour i'll add some Marmite... :P

seanyboy 16-12-2005, 09:43 I like marmite, its full of good stuff.
MissGobby 16-12-2005, 10:41 my mum loooooves it, and so does my bloke, i find it disgusting, it bloomin stinks n'all, so when my bloke has that, i make sure he goes and brushes his teeth after, YUKKY!!! :gag:
koenigsinger 16-12-2005, 10:55 I love marmite, but always found you have to use it sparingly or it would burn the roof of your mouth with a ferocity akin to nitric acid, then I discovered VEGEMITE !
Its just as tasty as marmite, but you can spread it on thick and still have an unscathed tongue!!

Did you have a nice time?
On topic: Marmite's one of those things I don't buy because I have to be in the right mood to eat it, so most of a jar would probably go to waste because I don't fancy eating it a lot of the time.
melthebell 28-05-2006, 16:52 us veggies cant live without it :)
on toast, in gravy
its not as nice as bovril was tho or oxo, as a drink or to dip bread in
Its the food of the Gods.
Who's tried those lovely Marmite biscuits? They are very, very nice, not cheap though.
B*gger. Now I am craving some hot buttered toast with marmite.

I'm about to cook the tea, so marmite on toast would be greedy, but as soon as the stuff is mentioned I want to eat it. Does it still have nicotinic acid in it? It used to.
I used to make soya mince mixed with hot water, tomatoes and marmite. Mmmmmm......
Plain Talker 29-05-2006, 09:45 I didn't like the marmite drink my aunt gave me when i was a kid, I thought it'd taste like oxo, or bovril, I refused to touch the stuff for years after. (although i did like the marmite-y tasting twiglets, isn't that odd?)
Then, about 18 years ago, I was stopping over at a friend's place, and at breakfast, she put some marmite on toast for me to try, and I was hooked.
I would agree, though, that less is very definitely more when it comes to spreading it on your toast, if you spread it thickly, then the flavour is too intense, and it overwhelms.
PT
Godzilla 29-05-2006, 09:51 One of my favourite supper dishes is my home-made chilli-bean soup accompanied by crusty bread spread with butter and a thin layer of marmite - yum!!
melthebell 29-05-2006, 10:05 yeah maybe those that hate it had it spread too thickly as a child and now have a phobia?
maybe not
*gets coat*
Crayfish 29-05-2006, 10:27 Orrible stuff, worst aftertaste in the world! Though grapefruit juice comes close.
