View Full Version : Changes to PayPal
Has anyone else had their PayPal account put on limited status?
I was told my account was put on hold due to the large number of Chargebacks I had received. But today, PayPal customer services inform me that this is a change to their policy and that ALL Premier Business Accounts will now have many payments withheld until you can provide tracking or the customer leaves feedback (or 21 days elapses, whichever is sooner).
So, has this affected anyone else? This seems very wrong to me and I can't wait to get rid of PayPal once and for all...
sophiec1979 10-06-2010, 11:56 what are chargebacks and what do they mean by tracking?

Thanks for the reply. I don't see how this is helping us, as the user could still issue a chargeback (where they say the payment was unauthorised) at any point after, so the 21 days is merely an arbitrary figure which helps no one!
I've had chargebacks after a minute, an hour and several months... This isn't helping anyone but allowing PayPal to keep my cash!
highgreen 10-06-2010, 14:14 u get the payment after 21 days if the buyer has not left feedback.....
if the buyer leaves feedback after sat 2 days you payment is released to you..
i'v had 2 accounts go the same way but they have limited my accounts with over £3k in the totalling acounts saying they want id n prove of purchases etc but i havent had any charge backs r refunds or complaints.. yet the items i buy are from car boots etc so the money has to wait there 6 months before they will realise its a joke
It's just a total con, especially when I don't sell more than a handful of items on Ebay and most of those rarely sell.
I can't wait to get rid of PayPal. Two weeks and counting!
bladesufc1 10-06-2010, 16:31 Yes i've experienced the same problems...
I sell many items on ebay and they've started holding the funds until you send them the tracking number to prove you have sent the item.. THEN you have to wait for the buyer to leave POSITIVE feedback only.. until you get your money..
If they leave you no feedback or negative feedback.. you won't get your funds until the 14/21days are over...
It's abit silly yes.. but bare in mind alot of ebay are using paypal for fraud.. so i guess this sort of helps that!
(Protecting buyers & sellers)
But i agree some changes are wrong...
???? news to me, i'm sending out around 60-90 orders a month, not had anything like this??

ebay and paypal are fast becoming fraud facilitators, enabling crooks who buy and sell on the site to con decent people and unwary victims, so much so that people are leaving the site and bids are becoming pretty low as people dont want screwing. ebay have had a beasting for allowing fake goods to be sold on the site and this has hit their revenue, so now they have to rob their honest traders to make up the deficit. i lost money when i posted an item which the buyer says did not arrive. even though i had the proof of posting from the post office, ebay does not accept this as tracking evidence saying that the goods have been delivered. so i lost the item, the postage costs, the ebay and paypal fees and most of my faith in the site. i recently bought size six shoes that when they arrived were marked size 5 and a half. ebay decided in my favour and offered a "full" refund when i returned the item to the seller via a tracking facility......at my own expense! this would have cost more than the refund... so no deal. the financial institutions are so ****ed up in this country but know that an equally ****ed up government and the FSA dont have the clout to bring them into line. there is no wonder the cumbrian murders happened. people are just fed up with the constant financial batterings that they cannot cope. expect a few more incidents of this type in the near future. money is at the root of all evil.
That story is hideous - but oh so typical :(
It gets worse! The fraudsters who charged back to their credit card had a fee, which was passed to PayPal and on to me.
So not only am I down on the goods, but also I pay a £7 for every transaction they made... Outrageous!
What bothers me now, is that the less scrupulous traders on eBay will send empty boxes with tracking numbers to prove receipt...
eBay is too big for it's own boots now that it owns several other enterprises, PayPal being the best known.
The thing is, they kind of have you over a barrel as there aren't many other viable options.
It will never be a perfect system, but by 'eck, it could be a lot better!
What I found astonishing is that their 'protection' system is based on the buyer, so if a buyer has no verification (which they won't if they're a crook), the seller gets punished.
Surely, it should be based on the seller's account?
And should apply to the whole world rather than just UK and USA.
It really is a warren for crooks and fraudsters. I know plenty of people who say they've never had a problem, but I've had absolutely loads with people complaning to Paypal if an item is so much as a day late.
neeeeeeeeeek 11-06-2010, 14:50 Bring on Google auctions :-)
stressconsul 11-06-2010, 15:22 Most of my customers pay through Paypal and I have not noticed anything has changed.
So, to clarify, the Customer Service Team told me ALL Premier Business Accounts had been affected by this change, do you have a Business Account?
I can't imagine, despite their words, that everyone has been affected by this 'global change'. If you could let me know :)
I'm going over to Sagepay in two weeks.
go back to paying/taking postal orders!
any company that can take money and do anything they can to put payment 'on hold' is clearly looking to increase there cash status, 1 extra month for a million paypal deals? that's a lot of interest.

I have a premier business account.
Then they actually lied, stating that this was a worldwide change (I figured as much).
I asked for that in writing, and bizarrely, I'm still waiting.
Amazing innit?
Rageness 11-06-2010, 20:20 con and a half, just another way to leave moeny in paypal's bank and cash in on the intereset. I sold some items recently on ebay, 1 was a bonnet off a car £130 in holding on paypal, £30 of that was for the post... Why should I pay for postage if im not getting my money to pay for it. Luckily buyer was fine and left positive so got my money now.
sportaudi 12-06-2010, 10:09 hi, please beware theese could be scams i get them all te time, i will be selling an item say it's £10, someone will email me saying they will give me £110 and want me to post it to nigeria, so i say ok, and they send me a fake paypal transaction, ill get the email from paypal and they do look very genuine. but their actually fakes, also they say i have to send it first in order for my payment to come through and send them the tracking number.
paypal say they would never do that, the seller always has to recieve the payment before sending the item. always check your paypal first though, because if it was genuine it would come up with a pending transaction.

this is a very old scam. i was selling a pair of speakers and got an offer of £250 to end the auction early. the prospective buyer said his relative, who was away at sea, will send me a cheque for more than £3,000 that he owed him and i was to send the "change" but could keep £500 as a "reward" for posting the speakers to nigeria!
the speakers sold to a local for £170 who collected with cash.
i still got another email in "foreignglish" not from the buyer, saying. " £170 oh yes., that is a very good price. i will pay paypal and my brother will collect speakers tomorrow".
one cheque scam has been around for 15 years to my knowledge. johnny foreigner buys item and sends cheque. cheque clears and seller sends item. item arrives. then seller receives the cheque back from their own bank saying johnny foreigner's bank has decided that johnny's credit is no longer good.
bank takes money back from sellers account.
johnny is no longer contactable.
take heed.
dagaul101 21-06-2010, 15:04 Paypal is notorious for limiting accounts, especially if you have large amounts coming in (definitely not to use if your mortgage depends on it), the usual story is send proof of delivery, and or id, but I suspect the real reason is so the funds accrue interest in their very high interest account.
system-tek 23-06-2010, 19:38 It`s a right con ebay have done it to me, i used to sell over 300 items a month on ebay now i dont bother i have sold a mobile and some other bits and bob this last week and now ebay have my funds held for 21 days they have got £150 of my money in there coffers earning intrest on my money.
Amazon do this as it`s a joke an if you put one foot wrong on amazon they can hold it for 90 days as well.
Ebay and paypal now suck..
TheDaniel 29-06-2010, 17:40 I had my account out on hold around six months ago but that was a misunderstanding. I've always had great experiences with them.
