My younger sisster goes to myers grove school and apprently turned up to school to find the local police there and missed the first two lessons because of a possible bomb in the building.

does anybody else have any more details?

It used to happen quite often at my school - especially around exam time ;)

Nothing to worry about - just kids being kids.

hello everyone i'm a new one... daughters came home today from myres and told me someone had rang the school and said there was a bomb to kill all the white kids. could well be playground talk. kids had to evacuate for over an hour.

yep! dere woz a bomb scare.
what happened was on saturday afternoon, somebody called in school and said that they didnt like myers grove and therefore was going to bomb it. that was left on the answermachine.
then monday morning the same person rang up again and said they've planted a bomb.
thats why there was so many police there and we had 2 wait in the carpark until 10am.

no bomb was found though and it was all just a hoax.

Should've been real, best thing they could ever do would be dropping a bomb on that place IMO.

Myers has been going downhill for years.. Used to be OK till the Council imported all the estate scum off the likes of the Wybourn into the area :loopy:

myers aint bad!
it used 2 have a realy bad reputation, but things are definately not going downhill.
yea there are a few kids there who let the school down, but not everyone there is the same.
this year a girl who went 2 myers got the highest gcse grades in sheffield.
myers is changing and the start is by the uniform.
no trainers are allowed anymore, only shoes, and u gota wear plain white shirts wit a collar. thats a start 4 disipline.
no school is perfect but myers is getting to be 1 of the best in sheffield!

Rich, I wish you wouldn't say things like this without thinking. You really wish a bomb had been put in a school and hundreds of kids killed? I don't think so. :|

Yeah but you don't want to upset the PC brigade so nobody says owt even though it's so daft it doesn't even warrant discussion.

there aint no rules about what u can and cant say.
that blackboard/whiteboard stuff is rubbish!
there is no rule whatsoeva about whether u can use blackboard or whiteboard.
im at y10 there and there isnt much bullying either and its always been a brilliant school i think.
my grades are good and ive never had any problems.
most teaching is good to.
ya oughta go 4 a tour round myers or sumin 4 urself b4 u go knocking it

i know clothes dont make much of a difference, ive said that myself,
but its a start.
every1 looks equal that way even tho i h8 wearn the uniform.
it makes the school look smarter aswell and if da kids can get the uniform right, whats stopping them from getting other things right?

You have good grades? Have you like, SEEN your own spelling skills? Or rather, lack thereof?

I'm sorry, I just have a "thing" about bad spelling.

This is the Internet though, not mobile phone texting, there's no character limit so you don't need to shorten words in order to not go over the limit.

Apologies again but IMO typing in text speak makes you like er, a bit silly really

Mod Note: We ask people on the forum not to use text speak for a number of reasons. We have a diverse range of people using the forum, and for many text speak is something they find difficult to read. It also makes you look a bit daft, and people are less likely to read what you have to say.

In addition, it infuriates the majority of forum users, and threads such as this one (about a bomb scare; we're now talking about grammar and spelling!) go way off track.

Nobody minds the occasional typo, but in essence, text speak is not welcome here.

Thanks

i feel free to coment on myers as i went there and as i say i have a cousin in the 1st year and one in year 10
i also have parents that live near and my aunt and nan
i see the state of the kids

for instance:
walking from work the other day and saw three kids in MGS grey tops and one blue and they were all smoking and bloking the pavement swearing and beening rude, a woman in a pram had to use road to pass them, i however being a complete cow made them move out of my way

not a good impression of your good school cloza1991
and i too speak mostly text but have been educated better than to use it when speaking with people who dont understand

when i went to myers it was awful and i dont think much has changed!

you are probably a nice person, its a overall view we all have and some individuals mainly that stand out and give a bad impression ( my lot are nice and polite may i add - they have been brought up properly )

It's like I said before, Myers was respectable till they imported all the chavs off dodgy estates like the Wybourn and the former Kelvin Flats etc.

Anyway I'm off to t'pub now.

Gud oops sorry; good on you cloza1991. When I was at The Grove it was a great school as I have always said in previous posts and when I heard that they were changing the uniform for T shirts and jumpers/sweatshirts......sad bad news.
The discipline in the school in the 70's and early 80's was just enough to make the pupils realise that they need to watch there language and behave.
It worked
Hopefully it should work again

You know, I don't think condemming people as "scum" and "chavs" is very nice, or helpful. Yes, people from these estates face certain disadvantages, BUT to call them all chavs is wrong. To call them "scum" is shamefull. How would you feel being condemmed as "scum" just because of where your parents live?

Scum are people who should be rotting in the jails, not just kids who happen to live on the Wybourn.

I am so fed up of people slagging off Myers Grove. It is no better or worse than any average Sheffield School. It went througha bad patch a few years ago but it has turned a corner and is getting better every day. p.s. if you want to see chavs going to school look at them walking up to Chavcer oops I mean Chaucer

Well said Cloza..Im pretty sure many of these stories of political correctness are made up, just to upset the indigenous population and divide communities. Last week I heard someone say they were banned for asking for a 'black coffee' at work, perhaps forgetting that I know all the beverages come out of a machine!!

I left Myers in 2001 (sigh of relief).

Myers has been both a good and bad school over the years.

During my time at Myers we had a number of ofsted inspections and one year they released the ofsted reports to the press and Myers was slaughtered in the newspapers because of many problems we had with in the school.

I will put my hand up and say that I wasn't an angel, but believe me I didn't have horns growing out of my head like some of the others.

The pupils make a school, yes the uniforms make the school 'look' like a smart place, but really it’s about the discipline and to be honest – SOME of the teachers who were there when I attended needed to go back to school themselves to learn some manners.

All teachers (not just the ones at Myers) nag on about lack of respect nowadays amongst teens, but I do not agree with teachers who think they can get a message across better by shouting.

I think the only way to gain respect and better discipline is for the teachers to set an example, talk to all the pupils on the same level as they would like to be spoken to. You cannot tell a child/teenager to calm down or behave in an appropriate manner when an irate teacher is screaming so close to your face that you can feel their warm breath on your cheek.

…Just a thought.

I agree the school is crap as they dont give any disapline just expells their pupils well [two students there I know] have bad behaviour problems and the teachers cant control thm so they terrorise the teachers hitting thm etc.

Has anybody actually thought that it may be the parents fault that these kids are behaving badly? not the teachers.
