I am curently a part time postgraduate studying public health, I fund this course by working part time in a call centre. I have been working for the call centre for 3 years now and really don’t enjoy my job. I can’t seem to find a job with part time hours for public health it is mainly full time. My call centre pays me well at £7.60 an hour, I know I sound like I am being fussy but I don’t want to work in retail as it is mainly miniumum wage as with bar work and I just get by with what I am paid now. I only do 18 hours a week at the call centre.
I would like to get a job in the NHS doing admin work/reception work, whilst I study. I know admin work is nothing related to what I want to do but this way I can get my foot into the door i.e get contacts and get paid for a potential organisation I would want to work for in another area. However I understand it is hard to get a job in admin in the NHS without NVQ’s and RSA and text processning qaulifications. I was thinking as I am in uni only once a week that I could go back to college and do an NVQ in admin work this would take 9 months to do part time alongside my degree. So if I start September 2010 I would get my qaulifications in April 2011. My postgrad course I finish in July 2012.
Not sure if it is worth doing as I really don’t want to work in retail, bar work due to unsociable hours and call centre work. The admin job is to help me through uni costs for postgrad. The course at college would cost £200.
