I have a Wiegelia as a focal point at the top of my pond. There is ugly fencing
behind it. It badley needs pruning to ground level. My problem is that when i do this my ugly fencing will become the focal point. Please can anyone suggest a climber that will be ok behind the Wiegelia but come into flower when I cut the Wiegelia down? (Preferably this year) Thank you. (I forgot to say the fence is south facing)

cor, where to start! I'd go to one of the big garden centres and look for either a late-flowering clematis, or go for some colourful foliage climbers like Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus Quinquefolia). They can grow anywhere and is ideal for quickly covering something not so pretty like a garage or a fence, because it can grow 6-10ft a year! I wouldn't grow it up your house though.
It's nothing to write home about in terms of flowers (greeny-white), but in the autumn WOW! the green foliage turns a bright red, and in the late afternoon sun it positively glows!
