Anyone come into Sheffield on the Mosborough parkway today?
The Sheffield roadworks website says that they start digging it up from today - have they started yet?

Not started yet but due to start soon. I think they've jumped the gun a bit, as have the AA as their service available via mobiles has had the roadworks going for about two months already

Some signs have appeared on sections of the mosboruogh parkway. I found the following details on the sheff council website:

http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/road-works/major-schemes/mosborough-parkway

I'm glad they are doing something about the road  But the website is a bit brief. Does anyone know how it will affect traffic while the works are going on. The website makes it sound like a few speed restictions but it sounds like major roadworks involoving more than that.:help:

From the website:
New road surface between Richmond Road and Coisley Hill (including safety barriers and improvements to the drainage)

Not sure where the Richmond Road is they refer to, but it looks like work is gonna be done on the road surface on the stretch from where the A57 leaves the Parkway and heads up the hill in 2 lanes before it narrows to 1 lane.

 About time too. This section of road has been a disgrace for too long. It has an (unintentional) speed bump on the uphill side ( ), and has an (unintentional) 4x4 testing ground ( :gag: ) on the downhill section where it meets the island.

I wonder if they're gonna take out the old street lights that are no longer used, (due to the new ones they erected a while back), but were mysteriously left in place?!

The works will provide a quieter road surface on Sheffield Parkway and Mosborough Parkway and improved skid resistance, although speed restrictions will be in force for a short time until the surface has settled.
I hope this doesn't mean they're smearing it in tar and grit like they've been doing in other areas of sheffield recently - my car's a berluddy mess thanks to this practice, and it doesn't really work - the piece of tarmac in contact with your tyres is devoid of grit and is a nice shiny skating rink

They should get whoever did the repair on Moss Way in to do the job. That seems to be a great piece of roadworking. The new/old join past the dip in the road is seemless.

I particularly like the "part of a larger scheme that will include significant improvements to Sheffield Parkway later this year" bit. I'm guessing that significant improvements aren't anywhere near the kind of improvements that are actually needed. Still, it's an opportunity for them to blow another few million so it'll cheer the council up for a bit.

I assume the work on the Mosborough Parkway (bypass?) isn't finished yet?

The temporary signs say Oct to Dec, (with Xmas hols that means December's as good as done) and the cones have gone, but according to the City Council's webpage (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/road-works/major-schemes/mosborough-parkway) there's loads still to do.

Anyone in the know, cos the road surface is still ****e?

Yeah, I know cos I drive it every day and can see that they've pretty much packed up shop and gone, but from the webpage:
Improvements to Mosborough Parkway:
- New road surface between Sheffield Parkway and Coisley Hill (including safety barriers and improvements to the drainage)
- New traffic roadmarkings
- Vehicle-activated signs to inform motorists of ‘Queues ahead’ and when to ‘Merge in turn’.
There are no new road markings or vehicle activated signs, and if they think they've done enough to the road surface then they should think again. In fact, where they've put in new lights they've succeeded in adding new bumps to the road.

Complete clowns. Typical half arsed job. I feel a post Xmas complaint coming on.....

After 2 month hiatus it looks like the outstanding work on the Mosborough Bypass is to begin (wonder if this had anything to do with the e-mailed complaint I made to Streetforce? Nah, can't be, cos they haven't replied yet... ).

Work to undertaken from 12 Feb -> 26th feb.

Wonder if they can strip and re-lay the entire section from Parkway to Coisley Hill island in 2 weeks?

Looking at where they have put the signs warning of the impending work it looks like they are only doing the stretch of road that isn't too bad! The particularly bad stretch from the roundabout up to where the two lanes merge into one doesn't seem to be included :loopy:

Okay. I've had a reply from Streetforce.

The work has been delayed due to "..reasons out of control of the council."

The mail goes on to say:
...However works are due to start on site in the next few weeks replacing worn out carriageway from Coisley Hill roundabout to Richmond Road bridge.
Following the completion of those works in March more extensive roadworks are planned to remove the lumps and bumps from Richmond Road bridge to the Sheffield Parkway including the slip roads.

These works are planned to start in March and will also include the Vehicle
Activated Signs and a new road markings layout.
Watch out all those anti-merge-in-turn drivers. I believe the new road markings and signs will actively encourage people to do it :o
The mail goes on...
The new street lighting works are complete and the contractor has
made temporary reinstatements across the carriageway, permanent
reinstatements will be made when the carriageway work starts in March.

Unfortunately the temporary reinstatements had to be located in areas
where there are existing lumps in the carriageway, the reinstatements are
level with the carriageway but the lumps appear to make the reinstatements
worse.

I would argue that the 'temporary reinstatements' on the slip road leading down to the Parkway and heading towards the Handsworth turnoff is far from level with the carriageway, and is in fact more like those horrible speed bumps that Asda have installed on their new slip road.

However I can't be arsed to argue.

The rest of the mail sounds promising. Hope they do a good job. Then I can go and get my shockers replaced
