A mate of mine was quoted about £300 to have some basic vinyl lettering text, single colour, cut for his windows, each pane is less than 1m x 1.5m and he has 3 panes. So that's about 4.5m2 in total, and £100 per pane. I don't know if that includes fitting but it sounds a bit expensive to me, on-line I see prices starting from £20-35 per m2, which would be about £90-£160, minus fitting.
Does anyone know of a realistic price for this kind of job?
Are there any drawbacks from ordering on-line and fitting ourselves?

There is a hidden cost of your mate spending time shopping around, if these are signs for a shop, I assume it is to promote a service your mate offers? If this is the case, the longer he spends shopping around to save a few quid...the longer it will take for him to start generating business from the messages on the sign.
Just a thought!

I spoke with a large signmaking company at an exhibition only a few months back and he was showing me graphics on windows and an example price and from what you describe yes, that seems over priced though without knowing full details of what's involved it's hard to say. Could be gold-leafed after all!
It would be far easier if for just 15 minutes you rang round a few Sheffield signmakers and got prices yourself.

Thanks for the advice, I passed it on and he's already got a better quote he's much happier with!
