Hmmm.... whilst I have sympathy with your comments, there's no doubt where your loyalties (no pun intended) lie then..

Martin McGuiness - obvious reasons...

I don't think being loyal to anything is wrong but what the Loyalists of Northern Ireland are being loyal too doesn't exist any longer.

Let's try and put it the title of this thread right .. Northern Irish Protestants have shown their true colours (no pun intended). They are not willing to have peace in Northern Ireland because then the balance of power in their favour will be changed and eroded over time. They have one that balance of power through violence and they will attempt to maintain that balance of power in the same way.

I don't think we can afford to send any troops back to Northern Ireland now so I think that part of Great Britain will be left to fight it's own civil war.

Such a shame on all of us.

Reports recently stated that many troops were being withdrawn and security posts were being removed.
I wonder if it's more to do with a fear of being left with a reduced security presence.
If they start all that violence again the british government would have to maintain the levels.
I would emagine the protestant community would feel very insecure if the troops left.

I have many friends in Northern Ireland from both communities and I have to say I am offended by the title of this thread.

Although violence should never be an answer to anything, I can see where the rage might come from if an entire section of a country's population can so easily be regarded as 'Scum'.

I know I'm so scared about the lack of police, I think I'll shoot some - that'll help!?
Thank goodness the loyalist paramilitaries are not REAL terrorists like the IRA.
I am with you all the way on this one, Internet Owl.

I suppose lack of understanding knows no boundaries.

The Orange Order and "loyalist paramilitaries" are not the same organisations.

Thank goodness the loyalist paramilitaries are not REAL terrorists like the IRA.

I don't quite understand what you mean by this comment. Are you comparing two terrorist groups and concluding that the IRA are somehow better?

Not all of the rioters are loyalist paramilitaries, but when you get a riot there is a good chance they'll turn up.
I think you'll find there is a real worry about being abandoned by the british forces.

Using the term scum to describe a whole community helps nobody whatever views you have.

Speaking as a supporter of the peace process and the institution of democratic government in Ireland, I would urge these citizens to express their concerns democratically.
Deliberately inciting violence and thereby tacitly encouraging loyalist paramilitaries to exploit the situation only serves to reopen the wounds of the past 75 years.

Deavon - I was making the point that terrorism (ie gunmen opening fire on the police) is terrorism whatever side of the political divide you sit.

I hardly need that pointing out to me, i have neither condoned the violence nor sympathised with either side, just added a point i think may be relevant, so i hope you are not implying i support anything other than a democratic solution.

The Orangemen hold marches supposedly to celebrate historic events but all they seem to do is try to antagonise/intimidate catholic families who live along the routes. Their is no place for blatant intimidation in democratic societies. All this will lead to is retaliation and more trouble. Obviously this was planned some time before as weapons and explosives appeared on the scene rather quickly. So much for the peace process.

No offence meant 40summat - I too was only putting across my viewpoint.

after yet another night of hassle - the Unionists have the cheek to blame the police for the outbreaks!

Yeah right...
