Are there any sports that aren't a minority?

I bet Channel 4 are kicking themselves that they let the cricket go to Sky now that it's suddenly become so popular.

crickets only "popular" when the home team are winning.

show jumping & badminton have as many viewers on satellite as cricket had before this test series.
how many people watch it just 'cos it's on 4,which means they haven't paid for it & it's better than childrens tv etc.

I've never seen 20,000 people get turned away from attending a show jumping or a badminton competition (as happened with the cricket at old Trafford), but maybe that's just me? I've never seen a country so enthralled by a wonderful, epic sporting contest before, but again maybe that's just me?

No offence, but I think it's probably best to stay away from topics which you a minimal understanding of. ;)

so where were the fans at the league games when yorkshire were struggling for cash.
the country are enthralled because this time the game is exciting and we are winning(england).
the 20k probably only got turned away 'cos the didn't have tickets on the 5th day .they wouldnt have turned up if england were 3-0 down and 20 for 5 . or have i been watching the wrong cricket for the last 20 years.

Doesn't matter really does it? Cricket is becoming popular, and well it probably is becoming popular because the home side are winning, we ain't won anything in 16 years. It's quite understandable that people didn't want to watch it!

It's the same as football, your team starts losing week in, week out and the attendence numbers will be down. Your team gets relegated and the number of attendees and season ticket holders will drop dramatically. Why should Cricket be any different? And what's your problem?

It shouldn't be moving to Sky, I can't afford Sky and I watch the cricket whenever it's on. I didn't just watch this Ashes, but the one before it, and the one before that, and the one before that.. and so on. I don't care about those who've just started watching it. If they want to be able to watch they should be able to, and it's a shame the ECB gave the rights away to Sky.

i do genuinely watch the cricket when it's on & the rugby.it's background noise when i 'm working from home.
i have several friends int he same boat who can't or won't pay for sky.however sky will do discounted rates if u have an affiliation with a local cricket club.

Are you Fred Trueman in disguise? You sound very bitter at a time when England are (fingers crossed) about to win the Ashes!

Too right the 20k wouldn't have been locked out if we'd been 3-0 down! But the fact is, we've got the best side in years, we're beating our main rivals in an incredibly exciting series, and people want a slice of the action.

I can't possibly see how this is a negative thing.

its not negative, but if the people had been behind cricket before ,the tv rights may not have gone to Sky.
no bids from the BBC, 4 unable to offer big money 'cos viewng was crap.

england will win & about time - i'm as patriotic as they cum.

As good as Channel 4's coverage of the Ashes has been, at least on Sky we shan't be taken to the racing like has been happening during some of these matches.

It's just a shame there'll be no more Richie Benaud. Now THAT's a loss.

Not sure your logic is so great on that one, otherwise surely the football would have never left terrestrial TV eh? ^_^
