I can't decide which one of these ( if any ) works best.
I'm trying to capture that nightmare feeling of a visit to the dentist as a kid. Anyone as old as me might just remember them being almost this bad.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

In the top one it looks like you've played with the curves, brought the midtones up? (Amongst other things) You've lost a little too much detail there I think in the edges, I mean the effect works great on the chair itself, you get a really interesting grimey texture all over it, but the areas of dull grey where the detail has gone at the edges could be achieved by some burning. If you bring the highlights up in the second one, add a bit of grain, sepia tone it, maybe even blur parts of the image (the corners and other objects) which would bring more focus to the chair and make it draw the viewer in, which I assume is what you want! Then use some of that texture from the first images to dirty the chair up. That chair looks horrible, wouldnt get me in that ha

i agree, something not right with the edges on the first(the best out of the two) and the 2nd seems a little underexposed.

Hi,
I love the first one. The instruments are poised like arms, waiting to strike, and the light on the chair seat gives a focus to the centre of the picture. It has a real nightmare feel. Brill!

I'd definitely vote for the first one. I find my attention being drawn out of the window and to the lights on the second one, whereas in the first I find it drawn completely to the chair.

The head rest and pedestall thing are scarily nostalgic.. just need one of those black rubber gas masks.

First one is best as there is are less distractions from the chair.
A friend used to have one of these in his living room.
Intertesting location, where is it?

It's at Quarry Bank Mill at Styal in Cheshire.
Now owned by the National Trust, the mill is a museum.

The dentists surgery was part of the health "care" provided by the mill owners for the workforce.

Either looks good :)
But a lower prospective (to mimic how a child would have seen it) would work well,

Out of interest .. is that an old Dentist's or a studio ?

It's set up in the mill building, but I don't know if it is in the exact location where the dentist used to practice.

There must have been a lot of staff to warrant a dentist.

number 1 is the best one in my opinion. as mentioned above the second is too underexposed. It does give the fear factor of the dentists chair.
