We went up to Skye Edge, and most of the flats/maisonettes are boarded up, awaiting demolition.
When were they built as they look only about 20 years old and it seems a shame that tax payer's money has been wasted again?

they are definitely in the region of 30 yrs old, cos they had already been built in te late 70's when my aunt and uncle moved to wybourn. Their house was opposite the sky edge development, on Bassett Place.

To follow on from when they were built; when are they going to be knocked down and what is going to replace them? I've heard roumors about mmore flats and houses going up, mostly being private housing. Does anyone know how big this development is going to be and what effect it'll have on the area?

I'v tryed looking at the shef gov link but didnt find much.

Hopefully not very big as it's on my post round :( The last couple of years it was a crime ridden area with a lot of drug problems, i always used to see them sat around outside early in a morning.

Best thing to do is demolish them. There isn't loads of space as manor lodge school had recently been extended but there's enough for a fair few houses there. It's a shame as the view from them is fantastic.

I think a modern style housing development could do the area some good. A few new builds for professionals could pick the area up and bring a bit a money in. Dont think they'll build over the main green cos its a landfill site.

Thank you for your help. I notice that words "crime ridden area".

People tend to associate flats with social problems, but just a note- it's not the structures that cause crime, its the people in and around the area.

To reiterate, it's a shame that a lot of hosuing is being demolished as it cost the tax payer a lot of money to erect them in the first place.

Just another point - a positive one, the view from up there is wonderful.:)
