A friend has been made redundant and paid accordingly but believes that the "new" owners have employed another person for the same position.
We understand the law on this but there is the element of proof to be considered.
They would be grateful if anyone can suggest who are the best firm of lawyers in Sheffield to approach with a view to tackling this.
My husband Liam is a solicitor - you can call him on 01484 435543.
Try the Law Centre(its round the back of Nursery street)
They helped me out with a similar problem:thumbsup:
Hi, I would suggest Irwin Mitchell or Narbarow Nathanson, as these two are the biggest & most powerful solicitors in Sheffield specialising in Employment law.
Rgds.
I would second the Law Centre - my mate works there and they do unfair dismissals, employment law etc. Give em a bell and they should be able to tell you where you stand.

The best employment lawyers in Sheffield are at DLA Piper, the international law firm. Head and shoulders above the rest. But they mainly work for companies, not individual (ex-) employees.

There is a local independant firm called Mean Business, they are worth a try.
Remember that if your friend is in a union, they will appoint a solicitor to act for him and they will cover the costs.
Be careful on this one.
Business circumstances change all the time. Because his / her job was redundant last month it may not be this month. Therefore they would need to take somebody on to do that job. There is no legal reason all all to offer the original person their old job back once they have left the firm.
Unless there is some claim for unfair dismissal then what is there to talk about? And the fact that your friend took redundancy money basically means that they have accepted redundancy, not been dismissed.
It's a big grey area that usually benefits solicitors alone.
If it were me I would forget it and get another job.
