I'm talking about zoo in general here.
However, you may choose other forms of captivity of what is acceptable and what is not.
i.e.
Dolphins for shows.
I suppose it goes as far as saying is it OK to have say parrot in such a small cage where it doesn't have a chance to fly?
Too many parameters for a poll for this I think.

No - unless absolutely necessary for survival of the species...
I think a photographic safari to see an animal in the wild would be *awesome*
This is too hard a question for me - I love seeing animals and have taken the kids to safari parks and zoos so they've developed a love of animals too...
Undecided... in a perfect world...
I've heard Chessington World of Adventures (CWoA) has plans for a 22 acres safari park.

Yes ... some people should be kept locked up un prison.
People are animals, right ?
As far as Zoos, it really depends on the quality of the zoo. Having recently (within the last few years) visited both London Zoo and Paignton Zoo - I can say with some confidence that I was far happier with the conditions of the enclosures at Paignton. As it's unlikely Zoos are going to be outlawed any time soon, I think pressure should be put on failing zoos to either close or upgrade their facilities.
What about goldfish? I've got 3 of those... am I evil? (actually don't answer that :P)

Im not sure. In theory it shouldnt be for us to say because as a species we dont 'own' animals they should be able to do what they want, where they want and when they want - but in practice it doesnt work like this because humans have a fascination with animals.
If an animal ends up out of its natural environment through whatever way we are told its kinder to keep them in zoos - but i only think this is true if a lot of research goes in to their natural habitat and the man made one is made as close to this as possible. We'll never know whether animals are happy or not - they might be happier in captivity than they are out in the wild who knows?
I still feel bad for keeping my goldfish in captivity a few months back when they all died. Im sure they would have lived longer in the wild and i didnt do a good enough job making their home habitable.
Zoo's are good for looking at animals but not studing them
if you want to study animals you need them in their own habitat not in some pen being watched by 300 people a day
i think zoo's would be good great if they were bigger, like safari park size, so that each animal has its own space ad can move around freely
i see things on the news about people in
Aus land keeping Bengal Tigers in a pen 3x2m its disgracefull!!
zoos should only be used in desperate times or they should have a minimum area for each animal and certain 'homey' characteristics!!
