My daughter is thinking of buying a house there, any information welcome about the immediate vicinity... e.g. is it far (enough) from the Big Tree?

its anice road, nice area. you get a few kids but nothing too bad. My girlfriend used to live on Marshall and her friend also lives close by with no problems!

Thanks for the information Crayfish, after many hours without a single reply, I was beginning to wonder if it was situated in an unmentionable area of Woodseats! :)

I thought you'd be inundated with responses as some forum members live in the area but they're all out on the razz I suppose.
The area is nice, lots of family houses and quiet, the Big tree tends to cause trouble when it happens to spill out along Chesterfield road I've never heard of it causing problems going the other way and I've got friends on Marshall and relatives just round the corner.
It's very convenient for the shops and unlike plenty of other places in the city you don't have any horrendous hills to climb unless of course you want to. Graves park exellent for kiddy playing and dog walking or just nice to have an amble in nice weather.
The houses in that area are highly sought after and seem to go for slightly more than on the other side of Chesterfield road

Many thanks for that reassuring write-up, WallBuilder... I too thought that there might be a greater response, but as you say, they're probably all currently out imbibing the local falling-down waters...:)

My main worry was it's proximity to the 'Big Tree', which seems to have somewhat of a dubious reputation from what I've read on here!

I'm not familiar with the area and it's a relief to know that it's well thought of... She'll no doubt be pleased when I pass the information on...

Thanks again, your help is much appreciated...

Just got back off the raz.....
Mitchell Road is very nice.
Let me reassure you - all the talk about the big tree is tripe - the only chance you have of witnessing / being involved in any trouble is if you are in there causing it. I live close by (on the Mitchell Road side) and have experienced absolutely no problems of any description.

Must have been some razz! :D

Thanks for that Voise, it's all good to hear! :)

Mitchell Rd is lovely - as are Linburn, Bromwich, Marshall and many other roads in that area of Woodseats!.. Msb lives there - as do a couple of other Forummers and I can guarantee it being a nice area in which to live. It isn't near enough the Big Tree to get any noise/trouble and to be honest - as a previous poster said - you only get trouble in the Big Tree if you look for it (or support the wrong tem it would appear!).

Msb lives there? OMG, I wonder if it's too late to retract the bid!!

Seriously though folks... Msb, your words are very reassuring, I know that you're an acknowledged expert on the area, particularly on its' underground streams!;)

Thanks for your input. :)

I'll second MsB's comments. Been here two years on Linburn, and found it a really peaceful little enclave. The Big Tree seems to have a clientele which commutes there for lots of lagger beer, then commutes off again. The older locals sometimes drink in the Abbey. All told, we lucked in here, considering we chose the place just because we loved the house. It's a nice solid area with a good mix of inhabitants who talk to each other. It's neither scuzzy nor too highly posh and up itself. The housing stock is mainly turn of 20th century and very well built. Schools are apparently really good, and Woodseats still has brilliant local shops. Best of all, the gritstone edges are about 15 minutes away.

Top area this. Having said that it looks as though I'll be leaving sometime soon, as moving to Cornwall. Anybody want a nice 3-bed end terrace?

Thank you for the input joyphil, I don't think I've heard a bad word said yet about Woodseats from it's inhabitants!

I'm glad to hear that you think so well of your immediate area, it seems that my daughter made a wise choice (for once!) :)

Thanks again to all of you who took the trouble to reply, it's been valuable information and much appreciated.

I used to rent a house on Mitchell road. It was the nicest place i have lived in sheffield. (Out of just off eccy road, nether edge and hackenthorpe). It's nice and quiet but near to the shopsetc in woodseats and graves park. The big tree does look rough but it is self contained.
The only slight disadvatage is the traffic on the chesterfield road. Can take ages especially towards town. However it is fairly easy to go the back route towards archer road to avoid it.
When i start looking for a house to but i'll be looking there. When you selling joyphil?

From all the glowing reports that I've read so far about this area, I'm beginning to wish that *I* lived there too!

Good to hear your opinion, Sal22... thanks for adding it...

Mitchell is a lovely quiet road, and if you are very lucky, you might even get a view of Muddy Mansions.

You can walk to the Derbyshire border in about 20 minutes, the shops and pubs are various, the neighbours are great over at my end. There are several large supermarkets within less than 10 minutes walk.
It is also extremely handy for access to the M1 south via J29, you have two main roads to meadowhead roundabout and it's dual carriageway all the way.
Woodseats itself is extremely well connected to town and there are busses every five minutes during the day and every 10-15 minutes in the evening. We also have several banks.

WOW! That's high recommendation indeed, MuddyC!

Compared to the scintillating prospect of the possibility of posessing a view of 'Muddy Mansions', the remainder of the overwhelming praise for the locale pales into utter insignificance by comparison! ;)

Well, it does. I speak from experience as Joyphil Towers is directly opposite Muddy Mansions. In fact, I edited the particulars for my gaff yesterday. Drat me if I didn't forget to put that fact in as one of the key selling points. That and the notable virtue of this winsome vista including a full frontal of Chez Msbehavin. This is one exclusive neighbourhood.

"...the notable virtue of this winsome vista including a full frontal of Chez Msbehavin." That's definitely a major selling-point, I suggest that you amend the details of your property immediately...

How unusual though, I never knew that Msbehavin's first name was "Chez".

I know. Odd, isn't it? Mind you, there's a bloke down the road called Mr Res. His first name is Desmond.
