View Full Version : Teenagers drinking petrol to get high.
This is the new craze.
They have moved on from sniffing petrol to drinking it. Kids as young as 10 have admitted to siphoning petrol from their parents' cars and then drinking it in parks with friends.
The situation was made worse by coverage of a Middlesborough man who was given an ASBO and banned from every fuel station in his area, after he was repeatedly caught drinking petrol straight from the pump.
But just one sip, or even a sniff, can kill instantly. It affects a nerve in the mouth that runs straight to the brain stem, and causes the heart to stop.
Surely not?!
No wonder oil prices are on the up!
Splodge_CRB 09-09-2005, 12:01 Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. You should skid in sideways, jerry can in one hand, syringe in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming... "BUT I'M ONLY TWELVE!!"
uncleheed 09-09-2005, 12:01 I suppose if you partake in such an idiotic craze,pi$$ing on someone chips would be interesting
the_rudeboy 09-09-2005, 12:04 They've blown it.....quite literally......if they smoke aswell. :loopy:
muddycoffee 09-09-2005, 12:12 Are you sure you have not read this story in Viz, and taken it to be true?
I find it very hard to believe.
At 101.9p a litre, that's an expensive habit these days!
(What ever happened to the innocent days of Mad Dog 20/20 and a ten pack of menthol ciggies???)

Dont forget the bottle of White Lightning!
they must be nuts,i once read in a first aid manual that swallowing petrol can cause pneumonia or even death.
Pseudonym 09-09-2005, 12:37 Nope, not Viz... http://news.scotsman.com/scotland.cfm?id=1895152005
Let's just hope that it's unleaded, that stuff is poisonous!
At todays prices? What, are they mad!? :loopy:
Lighter fuel/Butane is more dangerous - sprayed in the mouth it can cause the heart to go out of rhythm- and the heart won't revert to normal on shocking with defibrillators.
the active drug binds to the heart receptors and won't let go. the heart cannot be restarted.
Instant death.

Unleaded may not have the lead, but it does contain more benzene - a known carcinogenic.

All the more reason not to smoke :D
The Butane is the main ingredient that gets them high, but it's also the one that can stop their heart.
Kids have also been climbing lampposts and stealing the bulbs to get high on the fluorescent gas.
All this started when Redgates closed down.
Berberis 09-09-2005, 13:12 Who cars, let em!
I think the gene pool will be better off if we just left to there own devices especially when they 'fancy a fag' after!
WallBuilder 09-09-2005, 13:14 I once had a blockage in my fuel system and so disconnected a pipe from the engine bay and intended to blow down it hard whilt my friend had his ear pressed to the petrol cap opening to see if he could hear anything.
ALWAYS and I mean always remember to breath in before you start blowing with the pipe not in your mouth. The choking, the spitting, the gasping went on for ages and that was my friend who almost died laughing as I staggered around coughing and wretching miserably, almost as tasty as lavendar oil I imagine.
Anyway who in their right mind would want to drink the stuff????????

Arhh, memories, memories ... :D :D
slimsid2000 09-09-2005, 13:20 I suppose it is just the logical progression form other sorts of substance abuse. I just can't think why anyone would want to put any of these things into their bodies unless they have some sort of death wish.
I never had a peer group as a teenager and have paid a high price for it in lots of ways, yet in other ways it may be a blessing. At least I have been spared the insanity of drugs and other forms of substance abuse.
On a lighter note lets hope they have catalitic converters fitted so they can be environmentally friendly. :hihi: :hihi:

I know it upsets you when so many of the threads you post on end up being about you but I have a genuine question
Have you ever considered selling your life story to a magazine? I bet you could get a lot of publicity at the moment by marketing yourself as the "real life 40 year old virgin" I know everytime you post I am fascinated to learn more about you
Also are you going to see the film, it is surprisingly good and you might be able to pick up some tips

If you ever do want to do this, Slimsid, PM me.
slimsid2000 09-09-2005, 13:49 ha ha.
I doubt very much that my life story would be interesting enough to attract much attention. And no i certainly am not going to see that film, I don't want to get depressed.
I was just pointing out that although there are a lot of advantages to having a peer group as a teenager there are downsides too. One is the tendency of people to get into bad company and dragged along with things to be regretted later. I consider myself lucky that I have avoided such problems myself.

I think it would make a good musical - "Sid - My Life, My Sorrow"
It would run and run.
It's amazing how the kids have such expensive hobbies nowadays. Petrol's suddenly rather more expensive than smack, so now it's their lubricant of choice. Let's hope it makes them feel jolly, sociable and inclusive, because heaven help them if it turns them surly and sardonic, and they can't resist the urge to **** on someone else's bonfire. Boom boom. Literally.
It's not just teenagers that have strange habbits to get high,
I don't know about the drinking of petrol but there are alot of adults out there who use 'butane gas' to get high. (you would never know they come in all shapes and sizes.) My friend knows a bloke who uses all the time, he thinks its normal! :gag:
rubydazzler 11-09-2005, 23:17 I know I've only just come back from the unofficial forum meet and I may have had a drink or one ... but nick2 - you've made me laugh sooo much ... I've got hiccoughs
:D

When I was a kid, the money from my paper round would only stretch to a couple of bottles of White Lightening.
Petrol was somthing we could only aspire to. :o
Windowlicker 12-09-2005, 13:40 haha, you've got to be kidding me

How else are you supposed to find out if they're ok to be worn for the second day in a row?
This reminds me of the Lilly Savage joke where she goes to the doctors
the doctor asks "does your urine burn ?"
"I don't know" she said, "I've never put a match to it"

Don_Kiddick 13-09-2005, 05:24 Kids drink petrol because they think its a TOTAL GAS...
Anything to FUEL their ever increasing boredom.
Any brand, it doesn't matter; The Sheffield kids are often heard saying "DIESEL-do".
At least when they end up in hospital it will be like a 4-STAR holiday for some of them.
They don't SHELL out for it either!
Not only does it affect their heart, it affects their BP too.
Where's Viking when you need him? :hihi:
Phanerothyme 14-09-2005, 00:55 is it just me or is this Scotsman article
The chemicals in the petrol, such as butane, give them a buzz which lasts ten to 20 minutes and then they try again when it wears off. They don't realise that the first time can kill them
straying from the inaccurate into the realms of utterly dagenham?
Since when was butane a component of petrol? Octane, not Butane, surely?
The really clever thing about sniffing petrol is the risk of immolating yourself in an orange fireball in the pursuit of recreational asphyxiation/solvent abuse.
drinking it will not just cause severe CNS damage but also kidney, liver and gut damage, not to mention its irritant effect on all the mucuos membranes.
But it is cheaper than equivalent strength remaindered aftershave, antifreeze or white lightning.
