How does gliding through the skies 'on a coat hanger with a plastic bag on top' (as my housemate put it) grab you?!
I'd love to hear from you if you have taken to the skies in a glider already and know where it can be done in Yorkshire, costs etc. I am seriously tempted to do some gliding, hang variety or not, and so I appeal to all those with interest or knowledge on gliding to reply to this.
Thanks! Look forward to hearing from any of you out there...

Have you considered Paragliding - more popular less expensive, more convenient? I personally reckon hanggliding looks a lot cooler - but if you like the idea of free flight, paragliding is probably your quicker route to the skies.
If you've really got the desire to fly, chances are you'll end up having to make your own arrangements - but you'll meet up with other beginners on training courses. Flying isn't as popular as football or tennis. I was looking for a buddy to learn to fly with when I lived in London and advertised in the Evening Standard. I ended up going it alone and had some lessons in South Wales. I've since been to France and USA for training holidays. If only I had more time and money or we had more flyable days in the UK. (They fly something like 320 days in the year in California)
Good luck, don't give up the flying dream - and take care!
Thanks for the info spinac!
