Have the Blades ever had a braver centre forward than Billy Dearden ?
Glad you put "KING TUDOR" on the list even if it was only for his goal in the 3-2 over the grunters
Just a kid back then but, remember the goal as if it was only yesterday.

I didn't see a number of the players on this poll, so as most lethal finisher I would opt for Keith Edwards. He scored bags of goals and would have had more had he taken penalties instead of corners.

(But I also saw many a game where he was the laziest sod on the pitch. I recall when he got dropped to the sub's bench and he subsequently spat his dummy out - for about 8 weeks!)

On a more emotional note, I'd go for Deano. Snapped up for three and nine from Doncaster Rovers, this unsightly, ungainly youngster was transformed into a top class centre forward. The days of Deane and the more classy Agana tearing defences apart will remain the fondest memory of watching the Blades.

As for the inclusion of the likes of Gareth Taylor, a certain Mel Eves, and a stunning goal against the team with a chip on its shoulder up the M1, seems a more suitable option.

I think it's very close between Deane and Edwards... I went for Deane in the end, for how he played in his Agana (now a software developer for Manchester Uni) partnership days.

Got to be Mick Jones, when him and Birchenall played together they looked to biz, but of course like both Sheffield clubs the directors only wanted to fill their pockets through selling off the best players.

yeah the birch(sherman),was a big fav of mine, but the best ever has got to be doc pace!!

And after Gary Megson stripped Gareth Taylor of the Nottingham Forest captaincy, the forward wants out - and could land himself a move to Championship leaders Sheffield United.

surprised to see keith edwards in the lead!--ok he was a prolific goalscorer and i admit i was a big fan of his,but most of his goals were scored in the lower leagues!
thats not taking anything away from him though--goals are goals no matter where they are scored!!:)

Voted for Deane. Edwards was more prolific but in the lower leagues.

actually chris guthrie did go on to star for fulham and millwall, scoring loads of goals--the problem was he joined united in what was a disatrous season and things got worse and worse!!--i think chris took alot of unfair stick at times and if you look back at some videos of old games he did score some really good goals!!--im ready for some more flak!!--bring it on!!:)

Then of course, there's the old joke about "Doc" Pace seeing Ron Springett downtown one day,on the other side of the street. Doc acknowledged him by nodding and Ron dived onto the pavement. Groan!!!

I'd go for Mick Jones, has to be, it was a criminal act when they broke the Jones/Birchenal partnership up, they were never as good without each other. But I dont think Birchenal played centre forward, he was an inside right in old money.
The next has to be Doc Pace, the only reason Deaney etc score high is because the kiddies never saw Jones or Pace play, and Alan woodward was a good old fashioned winger who scored a lot of goals, he also always took the penalties.
