The 1983 TV miniseries Reilly The Ace Of Spies had a theme tune "Romance" from "The Gadfly" by Dmitri Shostakovich. My mum is obsessed with this tune and id love to buy it her as a surprise. Thing is, when she listened to it by the above composer it wasn't quite the right tempo so it needs to be the exact one that was used for the show.
This is a long shot I know. Ive emailed UKTV that showed it at the time but have had no reply. Thanks :)
There are lots of different recordings of The Gadfly, which vary in tempo from recording to recording. You may well also find that older recordings are faster than more recent ones, since everything recorded until the mid 80s was done in order to fit onto one side of a vinyl LP.
I don't know which version was used for the TV programme, partly because I've never actually seen the TV programme! I've played the 'The Gadfly' with a number of orchestras though, and each conductor changed the pace to their own choice.

The conductor Harry Rabinowitz was involved with the music for Reilly Ace Of Spies, I think he may have arranged the version of the Gadfly, he was also involved with the London Symphony Orchestra. Hope this helps.
