Since when were Barnsley and Rotherham parts of Sheffield?

since 1974 i think the border has changed drastically.

mosborough and halfway i think were pinched off derbyshire in the late sixties so that sheffield could expand and build public housing.

stocksbridge and deepcar are sheffield now, but barnsley etc just have the "s" postcode.... and pay lots of money towards supertram:hihi:

I did not think Barnsley was a part of Sheffield but was talking to quite a few folk from there and they all claimed it was. Who am I to argue with them? My ex - who is also from Barnsley - reckons it is part of Sheffield as well.

Nope barnsley is most DEFINITELY not part of sheffield, as much as I love sheffield, I'm happy I live in barnsley and that it's classed as it's own town. Open your minds a bit and realise that sheffield aint so great everywhere either.

Maybe they are referring to parts of the Barnsley District which once fell within the Sheffield area and not the town itself.

Dragon are you sure you don't just mean a sheffield post code?

You may be right straylight_r but we have a little bit more going for us than alot of others as well so it sort of balances out.

Not a problem for me whether it is or is not. We Sheffielders haven't gained very much from absorbing other villages so doubt we can gain that much from absorbing still more.

I am pretty sure they said they lived in Sheffield and when I asked where abouts - they said - Barnsley. I said - that's not a part of Sheffield and was told to get lost as it certainly was.

Rotherham part of sheffield?????????????? :hihi: :nono:

In your dreams!

Agreed. If we get rid of Rotherham all our Sheffield crime figures will plummet. Good point. Muwaaaaaaah!

So you say Don_kiddick. Also wonder how many people have read your name aloud? Sorry - I digress.

Not a fan of Rotherham. There's a chap from Rotherham I would like to meet, but who does not really want to meet me.

Aside from that - you know there are lots of people from other villages who do not want to be part of Sheffield. Well - tough on them. They come into the boundary - they are ours (cue evil laughter)

Bloke who knows me as Nos.

Anyhow - way off topic there. Rotherham has been a subdistrict of Sheffield for a long time; Barnsley for not so long. Where next I wonder?

Are we going to see the demise of South Yorkshire and the enstatement of Sheffield in its place? Watch that space.

Crime Figures, Results are per 1000 of the population so the bigger population of Sheffield does not make a difference to the figures.

Crime - Sheffield - Rotherham
Sexual offences - 1 - 1
Violence against the person - 16 - 13
Robbery offences - 1 - 0
Burglary dwelling offences - 9 - 6
Theft of a motor vehicle offences - 7 - 6
Theft from a vehicle offences - 17 - 8

Sourced from "Up My Street". This is all the figures they show, I have not picked the ones needed to make my point.

How the heck do they get those figures?

Yay - Sheffield leads the league tables in crime.

Is that not a contradiction in tems? Maybe it is just the way it is written that I do not understand - me being a Sheffielder and only having a tiny criminal mind ;)

It's quite easy, If you have one group with twice as many people in it has another group you would expect the first group to suffer twice as many crimes as the 2nd group.

The figures shown are per 1000 of the population.

So for every thousand people in Sheffield, 17 of them will have something stolen from their car.

So for every thousand people in Rotherham, only 8 of them will have something stolen from their car.
