I havent done a poll in a while, so here goes, I have searched the forum and found a few topics discussing Star Trek but not to see which is the best film.

So go on ... pick one .. which is your fav Star Trek film and why ?

For me it was ST5 : The Undiscovered Country.

[EDIT] eeek one has a smiley face on, should be 1998. Any MODS about, lol

You have missed a film out. 5 was the terrible 'The Final Frontier' (1989), 6 was the Undiscovered Country.

First Contact was the best, followed by the Wrath of Khan.

For the original crew, the best of the old Trek films was possibly Wrath of Kahn (Star Trek II) or Search for Spock, (Star Trek III), Generations was pretty good, and First Contact was probably the best Trek movie ever, I didn't rate Insurrection or Nemesis very highly to be honest.

IMO now they should do a Deep Space 9 or Voyager movie, or maybe even a Generations-esque Enterprise/TOS crossover where Archer and co meet up with Kirk and co and pass on the Enterprise to them.

But alas Bill Shatner and co are probably a bit too long in the tooth now to return to the roles that made them famous :(

I found Nemesis good on special effects but it got a bit silly when the Enterprise rammed the other ship.

They should do a Voyager film, but its unlikely.

I'm torn between two of them, the Voyage Home and First Contact.
I liked the funny bits as Spock did his kneck pinch thing on the punk and Chekov with his Russian accent being grilled by the authorities as a possible spy.
First Contact had it's moments as well, a certain counsellor drunk as a skunk for example.
I still think Archer and his crew should have another crack of the whip and if it's a film how about his ship going through a wormhole and ending up with Voyager, just as long as Archer never get's his hands on Janeway!!

Peter41, for me it has to be 'The Wrath of Khan'; A very warm and human story set within a huge dramatic space opera.

As it was written by Nicholas Meyers (who also did Undiscovered Country), I guess we have similar tastes.

(I love the murder mystery aspect of ST6 and the race against time... ever notice how prominent the clock is on the bridge? That is on purpose).

First Contact, then The Wrath of Khan.

I always remember the bit in First Contact where Picard explains to Lily how he envies her, being at the start of the journey. Quite touching.

And there's the 'Witness your future's end' line from the Borg Queen.

And Picard taking the machine gun to the Borg in the Holodeck - a great film!

The Wrath of Khan was good fun if only for Ricardo Montalban's carpet chewing act as Khan. He was great!

The Search for Spock wasn't too bad, either.

For me it was the scene where Picard looses it with Lily and vents all of his frustration and hatred for the Borg after his assimilation in Best of Both Worlds.

"They invade our space, we fall back. They assimilate whole worlds, we fall back...the line must be drawn here and now."

Patrick Stewart in full-on thesp mode and the genius of having Lily call him "Ahab", a comparison that hits home with the intellectual Picard...even though Lily's never read Moby Dick!

Oh yeah, and the scene with Picard calling Whorf a coward:

"If you were any other man, I would kill you where you stand."

That and the line:

"Perhaps today is a good day to die...prepare for ramming speed!"

The two best bits of dialogue that Michael Dorn ever recieved in the TNG era.

Ricardo Montalban's made Wrath of Khan, he was excellent, and a good actor as well. The one to one confrontation with him and Kirk is what Star Trek is about.

I think they tried to copy that with Nemesis, with Picard and Shinzon. But data stole that film.

I think Wrath of Khan was the best, I thought the Genesis Device was a brilliant idea. I also love the name "Multaran nebula", it's so sci-fi.

What about the 'no win scenario': Kobayashi Maru

"One day
One night,
Kobayashi Maru"
Bones to Kirk, Star Trek 6

I saw "Insurrection" yesterday and surprised it only got 1 vote, I quite enjoyed it.

maybe there are faults with it, and I am just easily pleased with star trek films.

Insurrection wasn't bad...it just felt more like a 2-part TV episode rather than a film. Great for the Trek fans, not very good for the non-geeks.

Oh, SpiderPete, you got me all excited there... then I clicked on the link. Boooooo. I don't want to go back in time with Picard and Spock, I want to forge forwards with characters from TNG, DS9 and/or Voyager into the future - or leave it be...

Yes I was a bit upset they gone back in time, I imagine this is to use the crew of Enterprise series......

I guess...

Oh, I soooo want a newTrek series set just Post-Voyager/DS9 so we can see what's going on in the Federation after we last went there. A new ship, a new crew, moving forwards not backwards (and maybe some cameos from our TNG, DS9 and VOY friends...)

Don't you mean Kirk?

New one sounds a bit pants to me.

I wonder if the cast of either Voyager or DS9 is strong enough to take the weight of a film on their shoulders?

I'd be more interested in a film that had perhaps an ensemble cast of the best of TNG, DS9 and Voyager.

Don't like starTrek. Never watched any of the films. But Wrath of Khan is a mighty name for a film.

Then came across this link in another Forum of all the people who have been asscoiated with Start Trek and have passed away.
