View Full Version : Have i done the right thing ?
mrs williams 23-05-2010, 17:39 I am wanting to take up photography as a hobby and my basic point and shoot just isn't good enough! Unfortunately i don't know anything about SLR's, neither do i know anything about all the technical terms used ( i have a LOT to learn)
so i have been doing a little investigating and have bought a fuji finepix S602. I know it's an old camera but thought that it might just give me a step up from from the point and shoot that i need, plus i only paid £40 for it.
So, have i done the right thing ?
yes, thats the short answer.
I started on a bridge camera, have sold prints from the results i have got from it. As long as it has full manual controls you can control the camera and not the other way round such as a point and shoot.
There are professional photographers still making money of bridge cameras. You just have to learn its limitations and that will only be done through use and practise.
REPO MAN 23-05-2010, 19:09 for £40-00 you cant go wrong, this was the first digital I got many years ago and in fact I have just bought another one for my grandson to go out snapping away with me as at the moment a digi slr would be to much for him.
as for a camera to learn on it is fine as it has many of the features and modes you can find on most slr's anyway, what you obviously dont have is the ability to change lenses etc.
good luck with your experimenting and learning with the s602, I think you will find it a more than capable camera to learn on.
If you want to know anymore please feel free to contact me via a pm.:)
mrs williams 24-05-2010, 06:49 Thanks for your replies, It's good to know that it looks like i have made the right choice.
REPO MAN, Thanks for the offer of help, I have a feeling that you just may regret that offer over the next few months :hihi: The camera hasn't been delivered yet but i cannot wait to get started
£40 for that... what a bargain!!! wish I had found it for that :D
Seems like the right choice to start off with :D
Despite owning an Olympus DSLR, I bought a Konica Minolta Dimage Z20 last year at a car boot sale for a fiver, and I am mightily impressed with it, so much so, that the olympus rarely gets a look in nowadays. It's not what the camera costs, but rather what it can do for you that matters.
Take your time, and moreover, experiment with it and you'll be away, happily snapping, at every opportunity. Have fun with it!

astraman 24-05-2010, 22:42 I started off with the older version of that camera. funnily enough, I paid £40 for mine.
You won't be disappointed.
Start saving up now though for when you get really hooked and want a DSLR!! LOL

Yes, you can get some bargains, but be careful what you buy and who from. Always a good idea to read feedback before bidding and if you do buy something, check it thoroughly once it arrives.

Don't worry, I'm always very careful where ebay is concerned, I made sure that the item was in the uk, the seller has almost 400 items sold with 100% feedback. I always read the feedback which was all very positive and always make sure that i pay with paypal. The camera has already been dispatched and will be delivered be courier. I'm really looking forward to taking my first snaps.:)
