I thought i would start a thread to show and add to what discounts we know of and what we find on our travels, please feel free to add any you know.

Councils also offer other travel concessions. In London, I can get my freedom pass, travel tokens, taxicards and dial-a-ride

Chester Zoo and the Eureka Museum in Halifax both allow one carer in free when accompanying a disabled person

Some councils offer a free playscheme for children with disabilities

Carers Centres often have free facilities for carers - courses, holistic therapy sessions, benefits workshops, support groups

You can get free prescriptions if you have a continuing physical disability which means you can't go out without help from another person and have a valid MedEx - you can get the form from your GP

T-Mobile have a direct line number for people with disabilities without having to press 1 for this and 2 for that - i am going to try and find out the number

Some library offer no late return fees to disabled people - check your local library

National Trust do an Admit One Free Card for Carers

National Express coaches do 50% discount for those with a disabled person's bus pass

Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury do free ticket for careers

Bangor on Dee racecourse - career gets in for free (average saving £10)

Longleat carer & disabled person 50% discount on passport tickets.

I've found that loads of places who I'd never think of, offer either a reduced rate for disabled or free carer tickets. I ask everywhere we go now!

i never think to ask, got to say though i find alot of places dont advertise or display the fact they do discounts and are only made aware by asking,

I think its just a concession rate which is much less than 50% but still a discount. (I hope so anyway because thats what I was told when enquired)

How do you prove disability at these places without carrying your dla papers with you. My grandaughter gets this benefit, though to look at her you wouldn't think she needed it, she has cystic fibrosis and is only 5, but needs loads of care.

i may be wrong here so dont quote me on this but i think most discounts wouldnt really make a diffrence as childrens prices are normaly about the same as disabled prices :huh:

The blue badge doesn't automatically prove you are receiving DLA, so it would depend on what the place offering a discount will accept as "disabled."

A disabled person's bus pass may also work, but the same applies.

I'd just call to ask before going. I know flamingo land requires proof of benefit. Just Photo copy DLA papaers and that should be sufficient. But again I would call to enquire.

I sent for my cinema card couple of weeks ago, just rang them, they are sending it out this thursday, so might have to go cinema next week :)

I will apply for the rail card and check out discounts in london. As I am going november 12th for 2 nights with the girlys.

The sheffield wheel also let the carer on the ride for free. I had to just show my blue badge because I ALSO DONT LOOK DISABLED ENOUGH lol.

Oh yes and blackpool pleasure beach offer a discount for the carer x

At the Lyceum, the disabled person and carer get in for half price.
At Chatsworth House, the carer goes free.
