My lawn has loads of them all over. What is the best way to get rid of them, should I be digging them out or spraying them with a weedkiller? Any helpful suggestions welcome :)

either really. But whatever you decide to do, you must ensure that you get the very long tap root out without leaving anything behind, or it'll re-grow.

Personally, I do it by hand with a bulb planter. Moisten the area around the dandelion to make it a little easier, then push the tool down into the soil, twist and pull up the 'plug' complete with the whole root. Then I fill the hole with compost mixed with a little sand and grass seed.
Don't mow your lawn too short, it allows the dandelion seeds to germinate, and in between cuts, pull off any flowers in case they set seed, and thus produce even more weeds.
I've heard putting vinegar onto the dandelion kills them, but I've not done it myself. Salt is said to kill weeds too.

Hi is there any safe dandelion weed killer as I have a cat which goes on the garden and the garden is covered in dandelions. Or should I stick with trying vinegar or salt.???

Most lawn weedkillers that can be bought by the general public these days in garden centres and diy stores are safe to animals and children after it has dried.... Verdone Extra would be the easiest and best one to get your hands on.... If you have a large area to be sprayed, I offer the service....

Hi,

I carry out gardening jobs for people

I agree with sskirrow that Verdone lawn weedkiller is good stuff against most lawn weeds. It can be applied with a sprayer or a watering can which has a fine rose

Remember to apply it when rain is not expected, which rules out tomorrow

Until you can treat them, as they are flowering at the moment I would advise you to pull the flower heads off so you keep the number down for next year

Pick them as they grow and make Dandilion tea, its really good for you. A super cleansing tonic :)

It is a diuretic yes but i drink it regular and havent had any diverse effects. Its best mixed with burdock root to, but curly dock is easier to get hold of :)

I'd echo Scott and Stuarts advice. Verdone Extra is the best product available to the public that will sort the problem.

Eat them as on this evenings countryfile on BBC1. After watching this I was thinking of sowing a row! :hihi:

Table salt.

Cut them down at soil level and sprinkle salt on the root, it kills it right down into the ground, is animal friendly and really cheap :D
