my opinion is they have been messed up in training and by tactics, its ok having beckhams long ball but not just that in the team. Everyone was saying such a poor game by lampard and gerrard but it bypassed them every time straight to beckham n then straight over the top. Yes he is great at what he does but sometimes he was putting players (shaun wright philips especially) in a position on the corner flag where he could do nothing, and as for rooney why dont he grow up you cannot go off like he does in international football it was juvenile. personally i would say the same as ian wright get sven out and give an english person the chance to sort the England team out.

Yes tonight was a bad night for England. England had more possession of the the ball. I think England does not have a good forward tonight to drift the ball close to the goal. Another point to make is that the forwards are mostly short guys that loses out when a header is required. So, if Beckham or Cole crossed in, the opponents usually get the first touch of header away the ball.

I did enjoy the hook shot attempt by Owen, although the shot was weak, but it was a good decision shot by Owen which is rarely seen nowadays.

Lastly, I think England is better off return to the 4-4-2 formation. Sven should stay because he has done a lot of good things for England, he is still experimenting tactics. I cannot think of an Englishman to replace him, can you?

Sweet dream everyone, good night!

i no hes only young in managerial terms but i think stuart pearces aggresiveness and pasion would be great also i think ones that would be up for it are:
alan curbishley Charlton
bryan robson WBA
steve mclaren
but you never no i just think the tactics at the minute arnt good and i no ppl say sven as done good things for england but i cannot honestly say that i have been able to come away from a match that england has played under sven (england Vs germany not included for obvious reason lol) that i have honestly thought yes that was a great performance and we deserved to win that

i would liek to see eventually stuart pearce i think his aggression and passion for england alone would make him a great person for this job.
and towards sven apart from our 5-1 thrashing of germany i have never actually thought we played great and deserved to win i have laways thought that we had to scrape through especially against the poorer teams

We've seen this sort of thing with other England managers, though.

When push comes to shove, it's the 11 men wearing the England shirts on the pitch that count, and quite often I believe that the players aren't hungry enough.

They don't want victory badly enough; it's not enough to motivate before a match - that motivation must be there all the time. The victory against Germany was an 'England Expects' thing - we LIKE to beat the Germans. We need to go in to every match treating the other team as a serious threat.

The problem as I saw it last night was a complete lack of passion! The NI team were really up for it but England just thought they could stroll through it.

Sven shows no passion at all and I think this works its way down to the team.

And why, when he brought Joe Cole on, didn't he revert to the 4-4-2 with him on the left and Becks on the right? Didn't understand the logic of bring SWP off and just replacing him position for position. And finally, bringing Defoe on for Gerrard just smacked of desparation.

I watched the game and wasn't at all surprised with the result. It has been coming for a short while now and for once we haven't got away with it (like the 1-0 in Wales).

I noticed some glaring discrepancies last night:

1 Sven doesn't know his best formula (4-4-2 would have done the job) nor where to accommodate his so-called best players. Beckham is best on the wing. Rooney is best up front. Ashley Cole is best defending, not attacking. Simple enough?

2 Sven decided that our midfield - arguably the best in the world - is better sitting back. Lampard, Beckham and the invisible Gerrard are major threats with the ball going forward. For some reason, they were all deployed far too deep last night and thus became, with the exception of Beckham, inaffective.

3 Shaun Wright-Phillips is not international standard (yet). It's okay running at players; it's advisable to take the ball with you.

4 It was only a matter of time before Owen Hargreaves came onto the pitch. Could someone kindly explain what he brings to this England side?

5 Rooney needs sorting out with his temper. He obviously got a roasting at half-time and spent the entire second half sulking.

And finally, my biggest worry is that we shan't get to the World Cup due to a manager who seems unable to gee his players up, knows what his best formation and team is.

And this, when to at least these eyes, this could be the best England squad in many a moon.

It would be a travesty if these lads didn't make it to the World Cup.

PS. Well played Northern Ireland and Lawrie Sanchez.

1. Sack Sven and put someone good in charge.
2. 3-5-2 immediately.
3. If Beckham is playing ****- drop him for a couple of games.
4. Try out more new players, ie: Downing on the left
5. Burn Owen Hargreaves and Phil Neville on the stake!

We shouldnt need to worry about the world cup really, because if we do go out early, at least the hooligan fans of ours will have some fun and disgrace us all even more than we are now!
