I'm just amazed at how causal some shoplifters are! I was in the post office queue at lunchtime and watched this guy come in (I thought he looked a bit suspect so continued watching him) and he just helps himself to a bottle of pop and walks out. There were two shop attendants stacking shelfs next to him who watched with open mouths as he walked out!

Its terrible isn't it- no-one dares tackle these people nowdays cos they could have a knife or anything on him- you should have tried to find a city warden- they could have called the police or something!

theres no point risking getting stabbed for a bottle of pop

That's right, I don't blame the shop attendants for not confronting the shoplifter, it isn't worth it.

I'm more amazed at how some people feel it is ok, or their right, to help themselves without giving a toss.

I once saw an old lady nick a packet of peas from the Co-Op on Richmond, I didn't say anything but my mum was going to shop her.

i agree totally, i dont get some peoples mentality at all. When i worked at threshers people used to do it all the time and the police just ignored it when we reported it.

Most places now actually tell staff that if they see anybody shoplifting, just report it internally, dont approach them in any circumstances!

Like posted before " Why put yourself at risk for a bottle of pop"

These people are loving it at the minute, they can knick all they
want and nobody is doing anything about it!

I wonder if anyone would stop me walking out of Dixons with a 42" plasma TV ?

I once saw a little old man get frisked in a shop & they found a bag of chocolate brazils on him.

Bless him!

His (upto then oblivious) wife was so shocked & embarrassed she had an angina attack & they ended up calling an ambulance.

All for less than a quid.

Depends how much the TV costs!

I expect there's a barrier between a bottle of pop at 85p, and a 42" plasma TV at goodness knows how much, at which point you'll get confronted.

The trick is to know what that barrier is, and stay beneath it :D

(Not that I condone theft, you understand  )

I witnessed a Grandparent (60's) and a teenage girl shoplifting in Sports and Soccer in Meadowhall!!

:wow:

The old lady had one of them tartan trolley things on wheels and she had it right up to the edge of a display table full of sweatshirts....the teenager then selected a few other tops from around the store, folded them all into a pile on the display table then quickly 'swiped' them off the table and pushed them down into the tartan bag and popped the lid over :suspect:

I told a member of staff but they had quickly left the premises and outside was a sea of heads!

I gave my details and descriptions to the store detective, security man and store manager and left....!

About 1 hour later I saw the culprits sat outside Burgerking with a woman in her 40's (who also had a 'tartan shopping trolley bag') :suspect:

I found a security guard and pointed them out and explained what I had witnessed earlier...he said indeed security staff had already 'pinpointed' the culprits and were witnessing 'the switch' ie., the elderly lady was giving the 'booty' to the woman to take back to the car and the elderly lady and teenage girl were 'emptied' to resume thieving!!

I was gobsmacked...!!

I would never have suspected these two in a month of Sundays, if I had not seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it!!

Both were very smartly dressed, confident and knew exactly what they were doing!!

When I worked in a retail placee in town years ago, I caught 2 scallies stuffing a laser printer into a Netto carrier bag. I went and asked for out printer back and they had the cheek to ask for their bag back! Chop their hands off I say :D

Not shoplifting but while doing my post round on 2 occasions i've seen cars having windows smashed and things stolen. A couple of years ago i would have confronted them, however after my ex-army mate got stabbed in the chest by a 16 year old girl last year i wouldn't dream of trying to stop anyone now.

She had just mugged his mother near to their house, he went looking and found her, grabbed her and ended up in the northern general with a knife wound 1/2" from his heart.

If i worked in a shop and someone tried to walk out with a 5k plasma tv i'd let them, no job is worth getting attacked for.

Another one, my mother works in crystal peaks and they had a shoplifter last week which the security caught, she had also been stealing from BeWise - for gods sake, i didn't realise anyone actually went in there never mind stole from them! :D
