View Full Version : Combi boiler installation company/quote needed
KATIEB_23 07-09-2005, 12:18 Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could recommend who to use in Sheffield to supply & install a new combi boiler?
I remember hearing an advert on HallamFM for a company a few months ago who were doing a special offer. I wrote it on a scrap of paper, and now I've lost it & can't remember what they were called! Typical!
Now we have found a new bathroom suite we like but have decided it's best to change the boiler beforehand.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Jozafeen 07-09-2005, 17:20 Alternative Gas Services on 0114 275 8871 are good and their prices seem reasonable.
Don't forget the law changed in April and you can no longer have a combi-boiler (except in exceptional circumstances). Condenser boilers are more efficient but considerably more expensive, require much more maintenance and being a 1st-generation product, break down (expensively) all the time.

Thanks for that number Jozafeen xx
bensonhedges 07-09-2005, 19:09 Just out of interest, why can you no longer have a combi boiler?
cgksheff 07-09-2005, 19:16 Here is the pamphlet from Mr Prescott's gang:
http://www.britishgasnews.com/managed_content/files/pdf/boiler_leaflet.pdf
Similar to new re-wiring regulations you will have to have a certificate when you come to sell your house!
New government legislation trying to make homes more efficient. All very well, but at £1000 extra for a condenser over a combi it's not making it very attractive.
I had about 6 plumbers round just near the deadline and every one of them gave us a lecture on it and why we're lucky that we got in just before the deadline as all they've done for the last few months is repair condensers that have broken down. The £1000 saving was also most welcome.
One even told us about a problem in one part of the country where the chemical composition of the gas was changed very slightly and unfortunately corroded the valves in many condenser boilers.
Of course, you may find a plumber who would agree that it is indeed "too difficult" to install a condenser.
you can still have a combi boiler , they are condensating combi boilers
as for sombody to fit one theres hulberts @eccelsfield and
bumfords @hoyland
