They send you down the drains to clean the sewers, armed with nothing but a used toothbrush
bigredbox 06-09-2005, 17:37 I think they get you to put little glowy jacket on and you have to do some pensioners garden.
Would'nt worry about it......hope your bloke's worth it babe!

You're joking right? I think you'll find they force you to walk round the local sink estates, picking up junkies' used syringes with your bare fingers.

Out of curiosity, Kirky,.. did you find it much of a punishment or deterrent?
By saying that you did "it a few times", I feel that it may only have limited purpose.
I guess that it is a good option for certain "one-off" offenders, but am sceptical by thinking it maybe being wrongly applied to some people.
Do you think differently about it with regard to your service when comparing it later to someone who may commit a crime against yourself?
Please ignore this if I am being too nosey!
hey, yes I got 160hrs in 1998. It is such a laugh, you get to meet some really cool people !!
Mainly painting up old run down schools, gardening at local council sports grounds.
Dont worry, you will love it !!!!
P.s how many hours did you receive ??
Cheers.
spyro2000 06-09-2005, 22:44 I done community service, it wasnt bad, in fact I quite enjoyed it.
Have a word with your probation officer, if its your 1st offense then uve got a good chance of getting something decent
I done my community service at a place helping out with kids and adults with learning disabilities, helping in the woodshop, heliping in maths lessons, cooking etc.
I enjoyed it so much that later in the year i went back for a second stint
Ginger Queen 06-09-2005, 22:59 An ex-boyfriend of mine got community service for assaulting a traffic warden. He got off pretty lightly really as the weapon involved was the car he was driving. He 'bumped' her legs with it! He went to an old people's home and read them the paper. By the end they loved him and he sat round eating cake and drinking tea. He carried on going after the order ended because he really liked it.
I did community punishment and it was ok. I worked in the work shop making benches and picnic tables. I did not know how good at wood work i was till i did c.p and as a result of being there i have now got a job at K.M furnishing in chesterfield where i make furniture for schools and office. Trust me you ll be fine. you will also meet some cool people

I
when i say a few times i had to go for 13 weeks so thats 13 times,i did see it as a punishment as i was working for nothing,i work for myself so havin to go and be told what to do and when to do it was a bit of a pain and yes it was a deterrant coz if i did the same thing again it would be prison,i havn't done it again and have no intention of being in any kind of trouble in the future as i like to think ive grown up a bit.
I worked for cs for a number of years, and have to agree with what many of the postings have said, it is a punishment which can benefit both the offender (learning new skills etc) and the many organisations for which the work is carried out (schools, charities, community groups etc) more of an impact than fines, or locking up.
I often felt the people undertaking the orders, in full time employment were punished twice, once having to carry out the work unpaid, and secondly having to carry out the work on a weekend, after working all week (when they could be at home) or earning overtime.
All of the people i worked with staff and offenders alike were brilliant, so there would be nothing to worry about, as a first cs order you will probably be given an individual placement, supervised by the beneficiary, working in a charity shop, school, oap home, near to where you live.
investigator 07-09-2005, 12:24 I was in a pub last year and this young-fella comes in asking if anyone wants to buy crates of lager for a fiver a pop. 'Where did you nick em from' I asks... 'Well I got Community Service and they sent me to the brewery to sweep up' says he.... 'So I nicked a few'.
A deterrent? Hmmm. Not in my eyes. Lets see what the t***s that kicked 7 bells out of me and my girlfriend in front of my two year old daughter in May this year get... they're in court on 28 September and if it's CS then i'll not be happy.
SlimboyFat 07-09-2005, 23:33 Got 40 hours in my younger days.
First offence etc, lost my job because of the offence (security) so the guy at the probation office asked if I wished to get them over with quick.
Mon to Fri (7 hours) then 5 on Saturday at a farm that supposedly had a few horses and used them for "Riding For The Disabled".
Half way through the first day I was talking to a lad that worked there (Voluntary, and was treat like s**t) who said that they had sold most of the horses and we where cleaning them out for people who rented a stable and had them cleaned out by the community service peeps for a charge that went to the owner. So we shouldn't have been there.
So I let Her know that I knew what was happening and spent the rest of the week doing whatever I wanted.....
thats terrible mr invsetigat i hope that person does get a proper punishment like i said i told a white lie for my bloke id never harm a fly i work in the careing profession am a kind person just a bit loyal to my fella thats all and ive found out what ill be doing now its not all that bad thank u guys.
