Looking for about 160gb preferably internal - but external at the right price would also do. Nedd to use it as a backup disc before I flatten my existing hdd.:help:

Thanks for the replies so far. Been looking at various web sites and am a little confused now, there appear to be acronyms like SATA, UIDE etc I don't know what they mean. Do I need to consider or be aware of anything else or will all of these drives simply plug and play with Win XP pro?

Its all down to type of connection, SATA is Serial ATA, if your machine is over 12 months old your probably needing a drive with IDE or ATA connection. If it is purely back up your doing, then an external USB drive is reasonably inexpensive and as a backup option far more useful than an internal device.

having only got 40gb internal and needing to install a recently purchased genuine xp disc I am still pondering whether or not to install a second hd as a permanent data drive and use the existing 40gb as an application drive or just use it to back up data (effectively mirror the 40gb drive).

At the moment I'm leaning towards installing a second internal hd and backing up any important data to cd's but would welcome anyone else's views.
