I am thinking of recarpetting my first floor and stairs and would love to know where the best place for getting carpets (including fitting them!) for a reasonable price would be.

I've always had good service from Mister Carpet on Ecclesall Road. I think they're competitive pricewise as well.

Bear in mind that the fitters don't like too much heavy furniture in the room and the bottom of doors might have to be trimmed, in which case they'll detach them and then it is you that will have to get them cut and re-hung. Also, tell the shop whether you have a wooden floor or a solid one. If it's a small room you might be able to get a roll end.

Carpets are on my list of big things to do/buy, and when I've asked a variety of people where they'd recommend the winner by a long way was Balfour mentioned above, on Staniforth Road. Not just on price but the friendliness and service for carpeting virgins. Great building too! :)

The idea of having to lay hardboard in my bedroom is making me fret though. I wish they did that too.

i fit carpet @ £1.50 per sq meter
fitting of gripper/underlay/carpet @ £2 per sq meter

i can supply and fit door bars @ £3 or just fit for 50p also can supply gripper & underlay for trade prices

i do have a minimum fitting charge of £30
and there is an additional charge of £20 to bathroom, landing, stair and hallway area's due to the extra time and skill involved

unlike most fitting services i only charge per sq meter for the size of your ROOM and not per sq meter for the size of the CARPET
so not only are my fitting prices cheap there fair.

all fitting is done to a high standerd, and also includes FREE hoovering in all area's fitted

I have just re-done my spare room and found that the best thing to do was buy the underlay and carpet seperate. I got a really nice durable carpet from Storey carpet's at £4.99 a sq metre but they wanted £6.99 a sq mtr for underlay!! So I found a place on ebay that was in Barnsley that did 11mm thick brand new underlay at £3.50 a sq mtr, if u don't want it that thick u can get it cheaper from them. Their number is 01924 378777.

We can recommend ASCFlooring, Ash (07843 056340) he has done our complete house and work for many of my customers. He is cost effective, reliable, quick and completes work to a very high standard.

He is self employed, but fits carpets for Mintons so carpets can be chosen and purchased from there or any other company.
