i just drove home the most roundabout way, because police aren't allowing traffic down the stretch of road (A61) from the Jet garage to the High Green turning.. all i could see was about 3 police volvos, a police 4x4, bobbies everywhere and what looked like the remains of a car..
bloody sheffield signs are useless!!

Agree witht he crap signs.
There was a two car collision. One of them looked really hammered. I was on my way to Barnsley when I saw the mess all over the road and half a car in the middle so knew it would only be a matter fo time before the police blocked off the area.
Turned along the diversion route and ended up in ecclesfield eventually.
Could do with some signs other than M1 and Rotherham.

exactly! normally it takes me about ten minutes to get from my missus' house in high green to mine just off london road (straight down penistone road).. i ended up going through chapeltown, ecclesfield, pitsmoor god knows where else.. past the hospital, etc! jesus wept..
anyway.. this thread was supposed to be about the accident, not the inefficiency of sheffield road signs lol..
add info. as you get it, people..
ta.
Can't really add anything to what has been said but we were driving out to Penistone from Grenoside, aside from the vehicles mentions were two ambulances but we didn't see any crashed cars (it was dark).
On way back, ambulances gone but Estate cop car parked across the carriageway with blues on guiding peeps out towards Wortley and Stocksbridge bypass

I reckon it's got very little to do with bad signage and more to do with bad driving/speeding/ using mobiles etc etc. One only has to stand beside a busy road to see it all the time. 80% of drivers are crap at driving and then when they lose control on a bad bend they will blame anything except their poor driving/ lack of road sense/speed for the resulting pile up. I'm surprised they've not blamed Tony Blair.

I think the bit about the lack of signage was referring to the diversions around the crash.
We were diverted around High Green and ended up slightly lost until we eventually found Chapeltown!
Does anyone have an update on what happened here?
