View Full Version : Any Land Rover enthusiasts? jackthedog 08-01-2004, 11:05 Any Land Rover Enthusiasts in Sheffield area? Lista 08-01-2004, 11:31 Wouldn't say Enthusiast, but my father specialised in Landrovers in repairs and sales, and i have codrived for my uncle in Trials. Also used to be a mechanic at my dads. Thats about as far as i go. More into my motocross mate. rosie 08-01-2004, 11:40 Everyone in the family love landrovers and we have always had one. My husbands family have had one for 40 years on and off my brother in law does trials in his, and my husband and sons have re built one. jackthedog 08-01-2004, 11:40 Used to ride Downhill Mountainbikes but injury forced me turn turn into a poof and loose my bottle. I wanna stay with the dirt, but enjoy it from the safety of a roll cage and harness. Motorcross is too dangerous. My balls arent big enough for that sort of thing anymore! Lista 08-01-2004, 11:47 lol, i ride downhill too, but prefer Hardtail bikes for cross country and trials.. What landrover you got at the moment then? Does anyone agree that Discos are terrible offroad? jackthedog 08-01-2004, 11:52 Not bought it yet. Scraping the funds together as we speak to buy my first. Been into them for years as an outside interest, but bikes were always my first love. Got an E Reg Peugeot at the minute. It's not done so good on the couple of occasions it's been off road! Who needs suspension anyway? Hardtail all the way. Hippy 08-01-2004, 11:54 Yep - love Landrovers - the worlds greatest car. If it doesn't pour water in when it rains it ain't a proper Landy... jackthedog 08-01-2004, 12:09 My current car pours water in and thats not even a Landy! Its a case of rainwater in, oil and coolant out. I want to buy an old 90, but I want something reliable and reasonably well running cos it's gotta get me to work everyday. My budget wont stretch to a 200tdi, but I dont wanna be committed to a smoking old rattly shed. Gotta dump the Peugeot soon though. Lista 08-01-2004, 12:47 When you buy one, see: David Lister, Poplar Motors, Old Road, Brampton, Chesterfield: 01245275396 http://www.poplarmotors.co.uk/ jackthedog 08-01-2004, 12:48 Cheers for the linky, Lista! Lista 08-01-2004, 14:02 Not everything is on the site, ie, landrovers etc, so just give him a bell, tell him what u want, and if he aint got it in stock, can get hold of it at a decent price. jackthedog 30-03-2004, 15:28 Bringing this old thread back to life cos I'm just wondering if anybody else knows of any good local places to get hold of Land Rovers. I'm looking at spending up to about £5-6000, so franchised dealers are no good. Cheers. daevh 11-04-2004, 15:41 £5-6000? could get a nice mountain bike for that. like a Brooklyn... :P mimicraze 12-04-2004, 18:48 i know a group of people who go out every sunday in their landys, and if you give me your number i can forward it on for u. x MumphitMan 14-04-2004, 19:53 Got a 100" Rangie,Landy Hybred which may get finished this summer. Got lots of mates into Landys also. Have you been on the offroaders rant page yet? Its quite good though everyones inflated the prices recently. ask them if theres anything around your price bracket! http://pub105.ezboard.com/boffroaderrantpage jackthedog 15-04-2004, 08:01 Cheers mimicraze, i'll PM you at some point! Thanks for the link Mumphitman, i'll get signed up as soon as! And daevh, be quiet! :) daevh 15-04-2004, 15:21 Mmmmmmmm... ;) http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/attachment.php?postid=1029165 DanSumption 02-08-2005, 14:30 Resurrecting this old thread because I'm in the market for a new car, and am seriously thinking about getting a LWB Defender, not so much because of the off-road capabilities (although that will come in handy from time-to-time) but because my current car has just been written off by the insurance company, I'm about to get 2 new additions to the family, and having hired a Passat for the weekend I discovered that even a large estate car is not enough for our current clan plus dog and luggage, let alone the extra 2! (And also because all MPVs seem to be completely soulless identikit machines) So I've been poking around on Ebay, not quite sure exactly what I'll get (or even exactly what my budget is) at the moment, but I'm fairly sure that whatever I get is likely to need some modifications, whether these be just to get it roadworthy, or to get the right number/configuration of seats, or to fit LPG conversion, or whatever. So I was wondering whether anyone could recommend any garages/mechanics in or around Sheffield who specialise in Landies and who I could discuss the possibilities with (possibly even somebody who could help me with my Ebay decision) before I spend the money, somebody who would then be able to help out with any work needing doing? gd_1 03-08-2005, 06:42 I love landrovers. You can fit a calf in the back, hitch a horsebox, and it does not matter when the dog eats the seats. Are'nt they good for being a farmer. Pitty I don't live on a farm anymore. They are the most awful things to drive, I hated going away on holiday in it to Scotland as we had to sit in the back and it was really uncomftable and noisey. They also are driven by people around the Peaks I have noticed who think it is somehow a challenge to drive them over a track. Doe. That is what they are for, it is no challenge and pretty stupid. The fastshow gets my vote. On the farm you used to avoid anywhere which you might get stuck as you had better things to do than go and get the tractor to pull you out. I better the farmer who farms around Stanage does not bother to use the track to Stanage pole which has been roundly *****d by off roaders. Sorry I don't usually swear but thats whats happened to it. They take up half the road, cause errosion, use to much fuel, and are generally a waste of money unless you live on a farm, work where you have to go off road and then they are rather good. |
