does any one know about soundproofing a domestic property?
i want to set up a recording studio in an upstairs room, but the walls are REALLY thin. you can hear entire conversations through them!
has anyone been able to solve this by building another internal wall? if so, how much did it cost? who did it? did it work?
any light on this would be very useful!
thanks

if it's any use (and i'm still reading the interesting previous responses), i'm interested in doing just the wall, and it would be worth a grand to me to have it done effectively.
do places like b+q sell this mysterious sounding blue plaster board stuff?
has anyone hired a contractor to do the work, and how much have they charged?
are there any specialist contractors who know how to space the air/ rockwool or whatever for maximum sound proofedness?
not sure about this, but have you looked at the Kingspan website?

If you're setting up a recording studio you need to think about the acoustics of the room itself, too. Egg boxes and foam piramids on the wall time!! :)

Hey there,
Not a great sound expert but I do have a copy of Canford Audio's catalogue. They're based up in Newcastle and provide everything a soundie desires.
Just having a quick look through, they sell a good range of differing acoustic tiles, with a pretty in-depth analysis of what they all are, how they work, react, and how to install them.
Prices are all given too.
I think you'll be able to access most of this info online, something like 'canfordaudio dot co do uk' (I'm not allowed to put up a link until I've had five posts apparently)
You could phone for a catalogue, which is a hefty piece of work.
Hope this helps,
Mk:)

thanks for all the info, i've been after it for months.
not at the acoustic tiles stage yet as i'm more concerned at first to be able to record in private, without disturbing anyone, and without inadvertantly recording the neighbours discussing jack fulton's while i record a transcription of purcell onto piano over a sampled breakbeat:hihi:
