Top gear have been filming at the bottom of my road all morning, Been watching Jeremy Clarkson flip a reliant robin on smithywood road, woodseats, apparently they have another 2 locations to do aswell later on, talks of one being near darnall in a few hours.
Its been wierd seeing a few local celebs here too, Pete Stringfellow was here with his girlfriend, and also phil oakey from Human league was also part of the scene.

Arghhh, i wondered what was going on when i walked the dog up there.. there was a red robbin on a trailer just left by the road. Thought it was a bit odd, but didn't see Jezza :(

On a side note, Jezza Clarkson has been told he's got to reinstate a public right of way across his holiday place on the Isle of Man/Wight (Can't remember which.) Went to court and argued that the right of way didn't exist, but lost...

I'm not bitter I'm happy. Confirms to me what I had always thought about Clegg and the Lib Dems. All things to all men!

They were at Meritor House' at the side of bernard rd incinerator, my m8 owns jgw coatings down there and gave them permission to film.
I nipped down to get 'clarksons' autograph for my boy. They had bout 20 'plastic pigs' and flipped a few over. There was a 'starsky and hutch' pig too.
'Clarkson' was driving a burgundy pig and wearing a white crash helmet.
They said it should be aired sometime in the autumn.

Many years ago I was chatting to the owner of one of the shops at the bottom of Rivelin Valley Road (Holme Lane) and we saw one pile straight into one of the trees right outside of the firestation. Took us an age to stop laughing.

Actually Jibbs you make an interesting question. With the mail being the property of the queen until it reaches your door, does the queen give the orders to the police to tell the postman not to deliver to a certain street because of filming?

Think about it

They were on Shoreham Street today - finishing off their film of Clarkson driving Reliant Robins. The producer said it will be part of the new series starting in June and I can reveal that Clarkson isn't driving in every shot you see - they film the distant shots with a stand-in driver! Who would have believed it, artifice in television - shocking.

I guess it says something that now the mail stops for a TV film crew.
At the battle of Sydney Street, 1911, A gang of anarchists were holed up in a terraced house, armed to the teeth. The army was called in, 200 soldiers were deployed and had called for a heavy artillery piece. The Home Secretary Winstone Churchill was on site. Eventually the house caught fire but Churchill refused to let the fire brigade put it out.
While all this mayhem was going on it's recorded that the postman managed to deliver letters to the house next door.

The garages they were filming at on Smithywood Road belong to my parents. I was on holiday when they filmed it so they came round this morning to show me the photos. My Dad was miffed that Jeremy Clarkson refused any autographs, and wouldn't even talk to anyone, he never even said thankyou to my mum & dad for the loan of the garages!
He did however insist on flipping the Reliant over on the drive himself, and apparently the rejected stunt man walked away muttering 'I hope you f-ing kill yourself'. Guessing they aren't best of friends!

Mum said the funniest part was watching them try and squeeze Jeremy into the bubble car.

(By the way, my Dad is the guy who gave the 'interview' to the Star reporter, and he says they made half the story up because they got carted away by security within 2 minutes!)

Only just come to this forum.
So i hope no one minds me re opening this thread.
My Reliant was one of those on the show (Green Regal).
We (ROC) were invited and had a good day out (and free sandwiches). Mr Clarkson was'nt stand offish at all. We took phot's even when they were filming, the security men were spot on. I was quite suprised Mr C was doing his own stunts.
Couple of points, the car Mr C was driving wasn't the same car he was turning over, nor was it the same car that went in the river at the end.
The car that was turned over had odd size wheels, with a 13" wheel on the front, instead of a 10" and a 12" one one side and a 10" on the t'other it was going to turn over anyway.
We knew it was going to be a bit of a P take when we were invited but as was seen we gave Mr C a hard time. Straight line T' pit has got to go down in the annuls of history.
I've been driving Reliants Finest since the 70's and never turned one over yet.
(i also drive (proper cars)(?)
like the program said the norm was learn on a motorcycle, pass your bike test buy a Reliant and when you couldn't get anymore kids in the Reliant, pass your car test and buy a car.
Now-a-days it's pass your test, and start saving up for the insurance.
