Does anyone know the Sheffield council number you ring to get dead white goods collected??

And if anyone has an old fridge they don't want that works, stick it on the street with a sign saying free, I stuck one outside and it had gone 3 hours later!! Still got a dead freezer that I want the council to come and take away.

I just rang SCC for you - can you tell I was bored? - who told me that you need to leave the feidge outside, and ring: 0114 2734567; they'll (your rubbish people, I presume) arrive within 5 working days of you leaving it there.

The council recycle stuff like that so there's no need to shove it in the street with a note on it! Any goods that still work are used in council houses and sheltered housing. Any goods that don't are usually taken apart and recyled or safety disposed of.

Your fridge could have been taken by a needy family, in which case you've done a good deed. But it could also have been taken by a group of youths who wanted to see whether or not it would float if dumped in the Don.

These guys were VERY good when we had one removed from The Towers.

I think they came within 2 days, very efficient.

the students are back...
couldn't you just put in on hunters bar roundabout and wait for one of them to take it?

The council recycle stuff thats in good physical condition, this fridge worked well but the handle had fallen off and the inside door compartments were all broken, they would have binned it. Well, to be more accurate they would have dumped it on one of the ever increasing fridge mountain sites. I don't think youths would have wanted to carry it all the way to the Don to see if it floated or not!

Do they do televisions as well? Got a big 28" widescreen that doesn't work, but its too massive to fit in my car!

Fridges/freezers are collected free as you're not allowed to dispose of them yourself. Somethng to do with the gasses they contain.

For other bulky items they charge a flat fee of £28 for up to 9 items. Cheaper than getting a skip!
