Coming back from a quiz last night with my boyfriend's parents, we saw what looked like a search light panning the sky above Doncaster. It looked like it was coming from the top of a building (so nothing to do with the airport). It was quite a bright/strong beam visible from the A1(M) and it was about 10.30pm when we saw it.

His parents said that they've seen it for the last few weeks on their way home on Sundays and Vini said that our faithful forummers would be able to tell us what it is...

So go on, solve the mystery for us?

Has there been any big open air concerts in the local vicinity?

I don't know but I doubt it as the light was coming from the centre of a built-up area and looked like it was positioned on top of a building.

It has also been seen on several occasions on Sunday nights at about this time.

I’ve seen these on the top of buildings in London before. Large batman style search lights powerful enough to illuminate the clouds. I think they are used to draw attention to a specific building.

I wouldn't be afraid it was due to the return of the Luftwaffe :D

i would have thought its everynight not just sundays, its just thats when the quiz is...

they said theyve seen it for a couple of weeks now. which would probably coincide with the opening of the new aeropuerto, however, the airport isnt situated near to where the light is coming from.

i think it's something to do with a night club in doncaster thats what my mate said anyway.
