My wife would agree whole-heartedly with you.

As much as you love 'em, six weeks with them around the house can be hard work and as you say, finding places to go to keep them entertained can be expensive.

It has to be said, my wife will be a happy bunny come Wednesday when she can reclaim at least some of her life!!

My kids are too little for school and can't imagine them not being here in the day. Makes me feel a bit weepy at the thought actually.

Although having a life??? Hmmmm ... I daresay that will be a pro. Hehe.

Everyday is a 6 weeks hol when they're little.

Aaaaaww bless 'em, the little monkey's. :)

I can't wait! Back to school for my son, college for my daughter and work for me.

School holidays play havoc for kids with autistic spectrum problems etc so getting back into a proper routine will do us all good.

I don't remember being bored in the 6 weeks hollidays.

I also don't remember mum having to have to takes us places to keep us entertained, we just went down Riverlin everyday and amused ourselves.

I guess kids can't amuse themselves these days ?

Do they have the playsheme thing in sheffield? In rotherhan we used to have differant activities to choose from and you would go for 2 weeks doing stuff like learning golf or footie and stuff like that!

Yank word for Mum.

I used to love the School holidays back in my School days.. Cos I hated School, for reasons I don't want to go into as I'm in no mood for it.

I've just asked my 21 year old daughter if I'm deluded or were the school hols for her and her sister great times? I'm chuffed to say she agreed with me. We rarely spent a lot of money but lots of time with them. I'm lucky enough to have worked in school and my hubby's shifts worked well too so we got to spend the hols with them. We used go on days out such as walking in the country/seaside but also setting up a treasure hunt in the garden, baking, outdoor creative activities, paddling pool..even in the rain, they used to enjoy school type activities too which meant they didn't forget all they had been taught and kept the brain in gear, having friends round for tea and making invitations and trimming the house up...ooooh all sorts of things. I'm glad I work with children, they keep you young, never get bored, and laugh.... the things they say about their parents ;)

BTW, my Mom used this for her mother, passed it on and my kids call me Mom too. I hear it a lot in Sheffield.

I was born in Sheff, lived in Sheff all my life, and have used "mom" & "mum" interchangably, so I'd hardly call it a "Yank word".

I used to do that too

It's a diminutive of Mama/Momma which used to have a lot more usage at one time

Mum and Mummy over here are a fairly recent invention

I might be wrong but I understood mum was originally a corruption of ma'am

I've been lucky enough to have 6 weeks off work with my littlies. It's been really good and the time has flown by. We did lots of inexpensive things like meeting up with friends, picnics, (indoors and outdoors) going to the park, creative activities, board games, gardening etc.etc. I asked them if they had been bored in the hols. My 5 year old said it's been good but we haven't had chance to watch much telly though:o I'm looking forward to the next school holidays:D

Calling my mother "Mom" was rooted during my upbringing in Canada.

Canadians don't like being called Yanks.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure it's an international word.
