weenireeni 04-09-2005, 22:12 Hi Iknow ive posted this twice mods, not sure where to put it!
ANyway i was wondering if anybody can tell me roughly how much bus fare is from stannington to city centre, what time the last bus is and whats the best way back from town after a night out? i notice the tram at malin bridge, do these run late? any info much appreciated! :help:
Buses 61/62/81/81A/82 go through Stannington.
For timetables and fares:
81/81A/82 www.firstgroup.com
61/62 www.rurallinks.co.uk
Timetables for all routes also available via www.sypte.co.uk
weenireeni 05-09-2005, 17:00 thanks for the info andy
Don't expect the Stannington buses to keep to the timetable though, they don't...
I'm regularly waiting at least 10-15 minutes extra time for the 81 on Oldfield Road outside the Sportsman pub, cos it NEVER turns up on time, it's ALWAYS at least 10 minutes late.
Consequently I gave up taking any notice of the timetables years ago, why bother when the buses don't keep to said timetables anyway?
Carl_Malibu 05-09-2005, 17:47 also its a bleddy stupid system
buses go two different routes, the same bus
so you wait at one stop and an 81/82 is BOUND to go to the other one.
thus you wait twice the time
(grr)
Yeah cos the 82 serves the estates, and the 81 in theory serves those of us who live further up in the *cough* real Stannington *cough*
But neither service as mentioned is reliable, the 81's bad enough but the 82 is quite possibly the most unreliable service in North Sheffield..

I know I moan, but that's just my nature.. On the whole Stannington is a good area, if you like pubs though you're a bit stuck, the Sportsman's like Mos Eisley Cantina off Star Wars, Minnie's (Rose and Crown) is OKish, the Hare and Hounds is shut, the Top House (Crown and Glove) used to be good but changed hands about 4 months ago and the new Gaffer's a Muppet, and the Deerstalker's also shut but meh, that used to be full of chavs anyway.
All being said though, apart from that and the rubbish buses Stannington is a good area to live.
Carl_Malibu 05-09-2005, 20:56 the holly bush is a nice pub
ok big walk down t'hill for you but hey
Holly Bush isn't in Stannington though, it's in Rivelin.
Carl_Malibu 06-09-2005, 08:05 haha, you can use "stannington" with artistic license
Even though my friend lives in hillsboro corner, tis still stannigton to me! :|

Stannington to city centre: £1.60 I think
The last bus from town to Stannington is 11:30 (too early IMO)
The last bus is probably the best way home, unless you do fancy walking home from Malin Bridge.
The Anvil, on the hill between Stannington and Hillsborough isn't a bad pub.
weenireeni 06-09-2005, 20:19 cool, sure pubs will be the first place i'll check out!
ta :hihi:
