Im thinking of renting out a shop on eckington high street. The high street has a post office n lots of banks but thats about it alot of the shops are to let which is not good, however the rent is cheap and specific shops can thrive in this type of environment such as pound shops. It is an ex mineing village with high unemployment. Would a pound shop thrive in this type of environment?? Any help would be appreciated
Pound shops work on very tight profit margins per product. Could you sell enough?
A lot of pound shops items are common now in supermarkets and Wilkinsons. I would imagine people would shop there.
You've got to aim for the people who can't get to these shops - old people. Maybe items like tea towels, washing products, biscuits, choc cars might work.
Pound shops have massive buying power, they make money because they can buy their products at 10p and sell for £1. Little ones I have seen have not worked but there is nothing to stop you if they find a market.

to add to the above, if it is a ghost town, it is unlikely you will get high footfall. Measuring footfall is a key performance indicator for high street retailers so be very careful about locating there (even if it is very cheap)
Speak to BiG in Sheffield about getting some advice. If you go for it, good luck.
would job lot be a competitor??????????
