Geoff 26-03-2003, 13:56 Although I've increased the subject length, I thought your existing subject was fine. What else did you want to include? Surely it says everything as it is? mikey 26-03-2003, 14:05 Send it to the council www.sheffield.gov or http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/services/hds/street/streetforce.htm Geoff 26-03-2003, 15:13 Originally posted by "mikey" Send it to the council... Who will kindly ignore it. The only time they will actually repair the roads is when there is a serious accident. Even then, there would need to be a public outcry before they act. :( Sorry to be so cynical, but when I consider the recent council tax increase and then look at the state of our roads - it's hard not to be bitter. Classic Rock 26-03-2003, 16:13 Which junction are you most concerned about? Geoff 26-03-2003, 16:24 I'm not sure what junction xyZed was referring to, but I know the junction of Division and Rockingham street is lethal. The recent work on the pavements has caused the road to become very bumpy. This isn't very safe as the bumps are right beside the part of the pavement people use when waiting to cross. One careless driver hitting a bump at speed could lead to... :? xyZed 27-03-2003, 08:10 Originally posted by "geoffbowen" Although I've increased the subject length, I thought your existing subject was fine. The fact that I could edit it to say something else isn't the point. I did that, and posted, then I tried to post something else and ran out of space again. We shouldn't have to spend time rephrasing a simple question. What is wrong with, "Where can you report a dangerous junction in Sheffield?" Why is that so long it will cause problems? Your reaction (in my other thread too) seems to be unecessarilly indignant. xyZed 27-03-2003, 08:36 Originally posted by "Classic Rock" Which junction are you most concerned about? Where Shiregreen Lane crosses Newman Road (S9) Coming down Shiregreen Lane and wanting to onto Jenkin Road, it appears as though it's one straight road accross but in fact Newman Road has the right of way. Every time I drive through I know sooner or later there's going to be a head on smash,. There is no give way sign, no proper juction. It's the most bizzarrre junction I've seen and needs a small painetd roundabout. I've put wo pics up to demonstrate. The first is of a car crossing from Shiregreen Lane to Jenkin Road, It looks virtually like a straight run across but the second pic shows a van coming up Newman Road with full right of way. People wanting to cross, either just stop in the middle, indicate right (when they are not going right) or put hazzards on. It's crazy http://www.andytrigg.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dangerous.html Lickszz 27-03-2003, 11:41 Yes, I am familair with this one and it's confusing. I personally have never had any problems with it. The only thing that bothers me is that I am unsure whether to actually indicate becasue there is the other road to the right which you could be wanting to take. xyZed 27-03-2003, 17:44 Originally posted by "Lickszz" Yes, I am familair with this one and it's confusing. There is still a right turn, it used to go to the flower estate. and people occasionally use it. If you are coming down Jenkin Road, you don't know if the person indicating right is going to turn right and therefore cross your path or whether they are going straight on and you can ignore them. The trouble is that indicating right when you are actually going straight on is crazy. People don't know what to do. The fact that some (like me) don't indicate anything, others put hazzards on, and others indicate right proves that there is something drastically wrong. I just basically move over to the right and stop, which also can be dangerous. Malaika 01-04-2003, 21:38 I have a problem with people using the bus lane running past the university approaching Brook Hill roundabout before 8.30 in a morning. Not especially dangerous but bloody annoying when youv'e patiently qued in the middle lane and then can't pull out to get in the left lane. The danger would be me unleashing a road rage attack on one of the que skippers. I wouldn't really, I just sit in my car swearing loudly. I've known the police pull over and fine one person ever for this and it was my mate in a souped up golf so he was a bit more of a target. Maybe they could fine more people and fill in all the holes with the money....... Lickszz 01-04-2003, 21:45 Originally posted by "Malaika" I have a problem with people using the bus lane running past the university approaching Brook Hill roundabout before 8.30 in a morning. But that's the entire point of bus lanes isn't it? They are there purely to make motorists see how the busses get a clear run through and motorists get stuck in jams. They are supposed to make them think maybe they should abanden their car and get the bus. I personally think they are a stupid idea, and do not work. There's no way they'll ever work - but that's the point of them - to frustrate drivers. I dunno I thought the point was to give buses priority and not hold them up in traffic...most of the times the bus lanes are empy which means that there is obviously not enough buses on the road or the idea isn't working. xyZed 03-04-2003, 07:36 Originally posted by "Lickszz" [quote="Lickszz"] They are there purely to make motorists see how the busses get a clear run through and motorists get stuck in jams. Lickszz 10-10-2003, 15:18 Originally posted by xyZed Does anyone know if there's an email address on a web site where you can report dangerous road junctions in sheffield and send photographic evidence? Another dangerous road junction I have discovered is Summerfield street. When travelling down and turning right onto Ecclesall Road I often find the lights are on green and 2 lanes of traffic should be able to proceed and turn right onto Eclessall Road but often there are still cars trying to turn right into Summerfield street or stuck on the central reservation. This is a frequent occurrence and very dangerous. saxon51 26-10-2003, 19:38 Report them to the surgeon when you arrive at the hospital. chalicefc3 26-10-2003, 20:43 Conveyeur (sp.) belts. escalators, Carousels. They are the key to the future of any major city. Sod traffic - turn every road into a carousel. Hop on, hop off. Simple. Its almost as simple as cable cars. That way - no one speeds, no one dies. Speed cameras become a thing of the past. Clean, efficient, and fun. Then the money saved from repaving streets and **ahem** resurfacing roads can be justified in carousel funding. How about it kids? Your feedback is noted  :P PaulTansley 28-10-2003, 17:38 The road in question is Shiregreen lane which changes into Newman Road on the bend, this is one continuation and you should stop and signal right to go on to Jenkin Road, there for treating it as a right hand turn off a main road. I know it is a confusing bit of road but to be fair the on coming traffic coming up Newman are not liable if they hit you going through up towards Jenkin. Tony 29-10-2003, 07:00 Didn't the Council have a system where they had a leaflet that you could report potholes on? The Cyclist's Touring Club (CTC) run this system nationwide ISTR. Well, I complained and Abbeydale Road is all nice and smooth now. Or the opposite - that the bus lanes are working because there aren't big queues of buses waiting to move 6" forward every 3 minutes. Seems straighforward enough. As a bus user, I find bus lanes just fine until your typical cashpoint parking dimwit blocks them. They should put dozer blades on buses to clear buslanes. |
