View Full Version : Gran torino- peoples thoughts
Hello, I’m just curious to hear peoples thoughts on this film? I was told it was brilliant, but when watching it i was completely astounded with the poor acting and stereotypes that were portrayed. I thought the general idea of the film was good, but it could have been executed better. Plus the main girl irritated the hell out of me
I loved gran torino, excellent film.
Really? I'm interested to know why? Just it seems as if i may have missed something!

probably because I really didn`t fancy it, but once I actually started I was sat there wanting to see it to the end.
The friendship with the girl was a bit weird tho
mighty bo 09-05-2010, 20:21 I enjoyed it, I am a big Clint fan though! Yeah I can see what you mean with the acting but the stereotypes are the whole point of the film how Clint views the chinese family and how they view him and how they overcome their views. Good story. I want to see Harry Brown because that seems to follow a similar theme and has received some very good reviews.

Harry Brown is awesome!!
10 out of 10!!!!:)
It was just a showcase for a well written character(Walt Kowalski/Eastwood), just like Heartbreak Ridge. I thought the B-movie acting and predictable, cliched storyline made the film less than average overall.
Other than Eastwoods brilliant one liners I was gutted by the hype.
Then he tops it off by singing the theme with a voice that makes me want to cough for him.

sjred2007 02-08-2010, 17:54 Overrated. I'm not saying its awful just not as good as I expected.
scottsmith 04-08-2010, 15:17 I like how dry Clint is in the film, but wasn't greatly impressed.
siquarius 23-08-2010, 12:31 This film dragged a great deal to me. Way over hyped... but was it because i was aware of the hype before i saw it? So i expected more?
It reminded me a bit of grumpy old men meets dirty harry in the retirement home. I cant really explain my dissapointment.. to hear one review say dirty harry was back got me all excited.. yet i couldve slept through this.
The stereotypes portrayed i hated too.. but maybe in usa its different and theyre much more able to identify.. who knows.. but for sure, it was a great performance by clint, and his typical type of film, he seems to like directing these slow moving emotional movies. Definitely not my thing, and wouldnt recommend it.. but if you liked this then be sure to check out "Red".
I agree with 'Fatdave' the acting was stifled, the plot was too simplistic and overall very predictable, but, agree that Clint as Clint played Clint well.:suspect::suspect:
