where's this been happening? There's been a load of stuff posted by some bod 1111 with a link that's been deleted. Is that what you mean?

It is spam - ignore it. He is posting it all over the forum too.

You may wish to tell the moderators.

Dont know if it's relevant but I've been doing a search on nitelife40 and cant find any references at all. Is there any connection or is there something wrong with my browser etc?

nitelife40 is a different user

[MOD NOTE]The user is a common visitor who keeps making new accounts to spam the forum and users with links to his bus based forum. His current incarnation has been banned and he is being reported to his ISP for his constant abuse and spamming.

OK.....

nitelife40 is a different user, not at all asociated with this spamming. Wendy, your issues with that individual were resolved some weeks ago.

The eejit that is 1111 was also s666 and cranworth and so many other aliases that we can populate a Forum with them. They are also all banned as soon as we pick them up. In ddition, his ISP has been informed and it's quite possible that they will cut of his Internet access for abuse.

On a previous occasion, we offered him a controlled way of advertising his forum - he refused it and continued spamming. Therefore we put his URL in the swear word filter. :D That's why it looks weird...a load of asterisks.

If people DO get this spam, from any user, please let us know. We will then ban the offending account. Unfortunately we can't do what we call an IP ban because other users using the same ISP would be affected. But we are taking steps to deal with this idiot whenever he shows up.

His first appearance on SF yesterday was spotted and dealt with within 10 minutes.

Anyway, thanks for your help - as always with the help of the regular SF users we can knock this stuff on the head quickly. Keep us posted!

Joe

That's about it....... :D

I wish I could claim credit for such a piece of high cunning, but tribute must be given to Tony, who's mind can reach levels of deviousness never before seen on Sheffield Forum.... :)

We genuinely are not worthy!

Not necessarily, only if he is using dynamic IP, such as PIPEX but if he is using static (like Plusnet), blocking the IP would be very effective!

Trust me, I've spoken to the ISP and we have the bank of IP addresses that he uses. But there are about a dozen or so other Forummers in the same range.

Ah, I posted on the thread Rich - it was a hyperlink to the post you were referring to about aspergers or something. I thought you'd like to post it yourself, but two of us did it for you ;)

Oh, well that’s unfortunate. How about blocking by MAC? Not sure if this can be done but it would just block the annoying spammer.

Vengder do you really mean someone thinks they're doing us all a favour by paying this geezer to make everyone's life a misery? Isnt this one of those cases where they might be better off on a long-term compulsory work placement with full Job Seeker's Allowance benefits ideally in the Outer Hebrides without internet connections? Or is that too kind ;)

I think one weekend a few weeks back we must have had about 5 different IDs from him, each ID posting links. Months ago we actually tried to reason with him, but he wouldn't listen. Just keep banging away at him and I'm pretty convinced he'll get bored.... :)

Serapis - not sure you can pick up the MAC from within PHP, as I don't think thre's an option in the HTTP protocol to make it available. And as we don't run our own server, we can't go further down the stack.

Nice idea though!

A couple of posts were removed, I think, but not sure by who.

Looking at the content it was generally of the view that we didn't want to give certain people any ideas. ;)
