I know this is often asked of mobile phones but I get most of my info on stuff via the net. I certainly would be limited in dsicovering new bands/films. I remember having to listen to radio 1 and use ceefax in my youth.

plus, I'd have to do something productive with my time....

Ooooh, definitely not. The net is the one thing that id be lost without.

Anything I can do I can do it on the net.

Id rather lose my TV than lose my net. (If I had to, I could watch TV online)

Id rather lose my phone that lose my net. (If I had to I could make calls online)

etc
etc
etc

I've been online in one form or another since 1982, and losing the Internet would be a toughie!!

I could happily lose TV, less happily lose radio, but the Internet is something that you might have to pry out of my cold, dying fingers.... :)

I'm a late developer when it comes to computers and the net and a few years ago couldn't understand why people got so excited over it. However it's slightly different for me now and i guess I'm one of those people who now burble on excitedly about the wonders of the net
Could I live without the net? Yes
Do I want to live without the net? No

That's true.

I see it as a necessity, and rely on it for things, as I have had it for so long.

I hardly ever listen to a radio these days, but when I do it is usually online. On the odd occassion I have watched the news online, but I never specifically watch something on the internet.

I would miss it but I think I would cope...my kids use it more than me anyways....I only really use SF, Ebay, Email and Play.com.

I used to play a lot of backgammon online too but that has taken a back seat since Zone.com changed the format.

None of my family can cope without the net to the extent that I sometimes become some sort of call centre thingy who has to look for jobs/travel info/assorted *****e for family members on the move :suspect:

What happened about those BT non-phone boxes trialled in Sheffield? Do we still have them? Did the rest of the country get them?

Hope you lot are having a laugh. Course I could manage without the net. There are so many other things to do, and the only reason I do not do them is cos I am lazy and can sit on my rear doing things by internet.

Not one of the most important things in my life - I am happy to say, but definitely time consuming at the moment.

Live without the net - no problems.

I could cope without the net, but i would'nt want to lose it... it would have a bigger effect on my kids... we have to "take a number and wait our turn"..........:hihi: Ive had the net for about 8 years, my kids are aged 15, 14, 11 & 7 so to the kids its part of life, unlike to me where it was all new, to them its part of life, to email mates download music etc...

Absolutely not!

It helps me keep in constant contact with family back home via msn. I don't think I could cope without that.

It's thanks to my brother all them years ago who got me started :)

Totally agree with you on this one Dragon... I too couldnt believe what i was reading...

People not being able to live without the net... what did you do before? come on people... I would say get a life (which i'm NOT! saying)... as it can be used in many different ways...

I admit i was once addicted... but now i dont see what all the fuss is about... plus i've life... whereas before i think the pc became my life... (thats my story... not having a pop :) )

Take my Telly... PC... but leave my Mobile... that way i still have contact with friends & family...

Without a Telly and PC i think people would communicate more... I know when our tv is off at home we seem to talk alot more... :D

Phft, its tricky. I got rid of the net in March attempting to
impove my life more by actually going out and taking part in stuff. It was hard at first, but the things I was doing seemed to take my mind off it, plus I got hassled less from people to looked stuff up on the net. I missed it the most for ordering and paying bills online, or finding train times, stuff like that.
Its also hard to have a relationship with someone cos you tend to find that they are online and are on there all the time.

Anyway, I got the net again, and the day I did I regretted it since I wasted the whole day on there, sat watching a chat room. i have more control over my time now, and only spend a few hours on it a week. its still my mission to rid it from my life tho.

no way! I use computers overseas in my job. Without the net I couldnt do that and I would have no job since the computing resources would never appear locally:(

from a non-work perspective I would find it very hard. I do banking, pay bills, book holidays, buy cds all online. Imagine actually having to leave my chair to do all this! no thanks.

also you cant phone 20 people all at once to arrange a night out. So life would be tough without email.

So in summary the net is an integral part of my everyday life and I couldnt go without it.

I currently have no internet.

(err... apart from this little portal that I've managed to scrape together temporarily)

The house is net-less.

It's awful.

I sit at night in the living room, forced to watch 'Trisha late' or 'Music Box' on Channel 4 with intermittent public broadcasts warning stupid people not to fall asleep with the chip pan on.
And I think...
"Have the walls in this room always been so close together?'

I have been sat at a desk in Saudi Arabia for three and a half weeks, with virtually nothing to do except wait for phone calls from an "advance party" on a sat phone. I have read Sheff Forum from end to end, and occasionally joined in. Thank god for the internet. It's Ramadan, and because of the security situation we are advised to stay in the office and keep a low profile. The internet has kept me sane.
And in touch with family and friends.
