Season isn't quite over yet but it's possible to have a little poll as to who people think should be manager of the year?

Have a vote and then have a discussion :)

Hodgson can't really be said to be "Premiership Manager of The Year" as his best work has been in another competition.

Yes it has but he is still a premiership manager though.

just depends on how people interpret it

I also think that when you look at the players and resources Hodgson has and what he has done in the League for the last two seasons then he has to be up there even if you don't take Europe into considerstion.

Hodgson has obviously done a great job turning FUlham around with modest resources but it just seems a bit odd to be Premiership Manager of The Year for doing well in something other than the Premiership.

Allardyce, Pulis & McLeish have all done similarly good jobs in turning small clubs into comfortably mid table Premiershi[ survivors, though I suppose they didn't have to cope with the extra challenge of all those extra games in Europe this season.

I think the OP would have been better off putting "manager of the year" but hey i think most people know what he means.

Probably would have been better off putting manager of the year but then that would have opened up another can of worms.

:?

I was getting at which manager from the premiership is manager of the year overall not just for the premiership.

Which joker thinks Rafa is manager of the year? :hihi: Come on own up!

Well anyway specific title of the prestigious award we're voting upon aside, if United win the title (which is of course rather unlikely now) I reckon Ferguson should get it. If not Hogson, for leading a small squad to a safe mid table position whilst playing loads of games in Europe.

Is it not sort of expected of Ferguson though to win or maintain a big challenge for the title? I think that sort of puts him out of the running, he's done well but then he always does.

Now Hodgson, 'Arry, Pulis et al weren't expected to achieve anything this season but all have done fantastic jobs with what they have available to them.

I thing Carlo Ancelotti deserves a mention, he's only been at Chelsea one season and is on the edge of achieving an FA Cup, Premier League double.

That Ferguson is expected to do so when he's lost two very important players in Ronaldo & Tevez but only been able to replace 1 leaving the squad light up front and that he's managed to push Chelsea to the final game of the season despite an extended injury crisis in defence (which amongst other things was a real help to Hogson) simply demonstrates how good a manager Ferguson is.

It'a just wierd that you can seriously say "he's done well but then he always does" as a reason why Ferguson shouldn't be considered manager of the year.

Plenty of managers manage the occasional good season (exhibit A Benitez last time round) when lots of things go their way. Great managers have good season after good season even when at times nothing seems to go their way.

I have to agree. I think Ferguson should be up there if he wins the title. He has obviously not had all that much money to play with this season (in top of the table terms) and has lost two of his best players. I also think that it says something about the man when a lot of the young players who come through and make a few first team performances don't go on to be star players but did a good job at Man Utd while they were there. He is obviously a great manager.

It wasn't a reason for saying he should definitely be out of the running but the Man United squad without Ronaldo and Tevez is more than capable of winning the League. I guess my point is that he hasn't really performed above expectations because with that squad of players he should be challenging for the league. It would be a disappointing season if he wasn't. would it not?

Boo Hoo to Fergie's missing players. Chelsea have been without Boswinga, Essien and for a shorter period of time Ashley Cole. On the whole, Chelsea have been missing more key players at different times this season than Utd have.
Having said that I have voted for Hodgson.

It's going to be Ancelotti, unless Chelsea lose on Sunday in which case it's going to be Ferguson.

I don't see much profit in debating who it should be; we know who it will be.

How Benitez and Mancini have got a vote god only knows lol.
Talk about a charmed life at Anfield, he should have been ousted months ago that fella.

He probably would have been ousted if Liverpool wouldn't have to pay him 6 or 7 million in compensation

My man Harry (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6139695,00.htm) got it.

Well deserved IMO.

Would Avram Grant get it if Portsmouth win the FA Cup?

The FA Cup isn't in the Premiership, so no.

I'm pleasantly surprised to be wrong, but I'm also surprised that they hold the vote before the season is over. That seems a trifle bizarre - what if nothing had actually been decided yet? How would they know who deserved to win it?

with the money available at chelsea in signings and wages it would be more of a surprise if he wasnt in line for those trophies

All clubs have 'key players' out for portions of the season, having all but one defender/midfielder/attacker in the squad out for a run of games is however very unusual and something much much harder to deal with.

I definitely don't think Redknapp should get it, if Liverpool had been any good this season breaking into the top 4 would have been a real achievement & perhaps worthy of the award.

Well deserved which was also shown by these poll results.

Has anyone ever noticed that you never see Roy Hodgson and Ron Moody, who played Fagin in Oliver, together ?

Strange that.
