Further to my Jester's Law post....

Have you ever lost a pet? (you can choose more than one)

What did you do to get him/her back?
Was it successful?

Were the powers that be helpful/unhelpful?

One of my ferrets escaped once and went on a long dangerous journey to the local shops. She scared the staff out of their wits when she popped her little head out of the pet food container as they opened up in the morning :D One of them thought she was a big rat, I'm just glad they didn't take a spade to her.

Used to have several cats. One was my favourite - a big tortoise shell coloured cat. Purrrrrfect. And tehn one day he stopped coming home. Saw him a while later and he had had the operation. He must have booked himself in and paid for it out of his mice killing wages.

After that he stopped coming round to visit. Ah well - I am pretty sure that whoever took him in enjoyed the comfort of having a really warm lovable cat to snuggle up to on a cold winters night.

We were once babysitting next door's cat back when we lived at Walkley, and the bloody thing escaped! :o

We were aaaages trying to find it! Luckily it decided to come home a couple of hours later.

Good job them next door were away on holiday or we'd have been in trouble :loopy:

Think it did it on purpose? Must've taken an instant dislike to you ;)

Our cat ran away, a couple of decades ago now. I think we tried feeding it eggs or summat

It will return one day...

Abdul, don't give up hope!! My dad grew up on a farm and one day one of the farm cats went walkabout. It came back SEVEN YEARS later demanding its breakfast.

Aiiiii! Forgot - cats. When my to be wife moved in with me she had two cats. They were great but for some reason or other did not fit in. Did not help the wife getting pregnant and me being fussy about bringing a baby into the house with fussy cats. So we got rid. Then sometime after my daughter was born - some considerable time - we got another couple of cats. They were great as well - except their little parcels everywhere.

They had to go back from whence they came cos they were very very poorly, but we got a replacement - a black cat. Very sleek and nice. Bit of a bitch though. Very independant. Anyhow - my wife and I split up and I thought that was the end of that. So - feeling it not fair to leave the cat alone in the house and not really having time for it - I let a friend have her. Big mistake. Don't think my partner ever forgave me for that one.

So when we got back together - no more cats. We did, however, get a dog. Lovely border collie. All cuddles and softness. Now, even though my wife and I are seperated well and truly - I cannot even think about getting rid of my dog. He is like a member of the family.

So - altogether I have 'lost' going on 21 cats, and a wife and kids, but the dog stays. ;)

We lost our family dog when I was a kid...he was called 'Tiny' he was a little yorkie...bless!

We got him back after about 5 days...a lady found him eating her cat food on her driveway about 3 miles away...!

She phoned us to let us know where he was, his dog collar had his details on!

Nobody knows how he managed to escape from the back garden but he never did it again!

I have this theory that all cats go on some sort of feline 'Walkabout' after they've lived with you for a while, just to make sure that they're where they want to be.

I think every cat we've had at The Towers has disappeared for a few nervewracking days, then re-ppeared and after that never disappeared again.

My thery is that there is a cat 'Finishing School' where they go to forget the ways of the wild cat and learn the ways of the domesticated homebody.

It's dreadful whilst they're away, but they have returned. The one that didn't come back to The Towers decided to take up residence a street or two away....

I owned a big black german Shepherd who was really unhappy when it rained as he didn't like getting wet. Anyway i was working down south near Derby and he decided to take himself for a walk whilst I was gardening. Five hours later and he was still missing with his Sheffield phone number on his collar so I phoned the number but obviously got some-one in Derby who was very nice and took down my details and promised to let me know if anyone rang them.
I saw big black storm clouds looming and then from my window spied a little black spot on the oppisite side of the valley from me. The little black spot was moving and I watched it traverse several fields and hedges till I could see him clearly padding back to base with a very pleased expression.
It started to rain and i closed the door as he entered the garden and then stood watching him with my arms folded as he sat by the door getting soaked.
He never ever strayed again!!

I too had a black german shepherd but she loved to get wet. She escaped from the garden somehow, and I found her frolicking in someones garden pond a few streets away from my house.

Two diverse experiences.

When I was a teenager I had a horse who suffered from loneliness when left alone. He managed to work out how to get over the stable door and could jump the fences to his field, and was frequently found talking to the cows 2 fields away. After all, jumping hedges was what I used to ask him to do , so what's the difference it he did it independently? (we used to go drag hunting- no animals harmed). For his own safety- he was near the A5- his stall was altered so he couldn't get out of it, and when left out he was tethered. He was such a good Houdini he was sold to somewhere that could keep him busier and stop the boredom.

I also had a lovely garter snake called Zith who could get out of her vivarium even with 40kg of dumbells on top (don't ask me how). She used to go down the hole in the floorboards where the radiator pipe came out, and pop up in other people's rooms in our shared house. It was quite easy to tell where she was- just listen for the human squawking and move towards the sound! She couldn't get back into the tank without help though, so when she was hungry I'd find her curled up on top.

our baby corn snake decided to do a walk about a week ago

i went to feed it its usually baby mouse (dead of course) only to find it wasnt there

we tried every thing to entice to come out of its hiding place but it looks like its staying put for now

were still keeping our eyes peeled for the slippery customer lol
