Hi
i'm going to sheffield on october, i'll like to go in the Film Festival (my little, stupid and non-intersting story is here http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57474).
I would like to know if somebody went there, what is your opinion about the festival and also more questions:
- is completely free?
- there are movies all day or only in the afternoon?
- do you've info about the last festival in 2004? 'cos i cannot find it.
the link to the festival is: www.sidf.co.uk

Hi Baldrick,
It's a few years since I've managed to get to the festival, so I'm sure it grows and improves. Its reputation has always been pretty good.
My impression is that all the excitement takes place at the weekend, when the mover-and-shaker types make their way up from London. Screenings are packed - lots of intersting folks in the bars - good scene all round. This is when the higher profile docs are screened and lots of seminars and good lectures.
By way of comparison, in the week before, it's a great opportunity to see a lot of unusual and fantastic docs in a more sedate environment, throughout the day and night.
If you want to splash out, you buy a delegate pack for the week, which I think gives access to all films and events - otherwise, it's pay per viewing for every film (pretty standard rates if I recall) and every lecture.
I can't remember anything being free though (please correct me folks if I'm wrong)
Probably still too early for much info to have been publicised - they're probably still working hard on the line-up.
Mk:)

The website (http://www.sidf.co.uk/) is now live with the full program of films (you can also pick up the the program at the showroom).
Some of the films the catch my eyes (and my ticket)
Bigger than Hollywood
Enemy Image
Enron: The Smartest Guys in The Room
The Government Inspector
Punk: Attitude
Must also remmember to try and get a ticket for the lecture by DG Mark Thompson.
Anybody else going, or have got films they fancy seeing?
If anybody fancy's meeting up and catching some of the docs, and indulging in intersting post-chat about them in the bar, let me know.

I'm checking the web and I think the films are very interesting. Expensive, also.
With all this sponsors (around 50) I think 90% of the films must be free. There is no sense to pay for every film. In Barcelona and Madrid film festivals of documentray is all free. See u there if u want.

Last year Indymedia did and alt doc festival near by that was totally free and pretty damn ace. You should keep an eye out for that if they do it again.
